This Summer 2025 Test Engineering Internship is a paid intern experience that will be based in our San Jose location. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with the GAF Energy R&D team who lead the research, development and innovation of next generation solar roofing. This is an opportunity to work on forward looking research projects. We are looking for an intern who is highly motivated, naturally curious, and has a passion for solar energy, to join us for a 8-10 week internship opportunity where they will have the chance to learn about BIPV (building-integrated photovoltaics), R&D, Reliability, and Performance testing.

What will you be doing?
- Assist with the design and implementation of automated testing for BIPV components
- Perform environmental testing on BIPV systems
- Specify and build the testing apparatus to calculate the forces applied on BIPV systems using industry standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop test plans and procedures that will evaluate the long-term reliability of system components
- Perform failure analysis on test samples and determine failure modes
- Present concepts and results to the immediate team and R&D engineering stakeholders to use as an input for simulations to improve future designs. Communicate clearly and effectively the results, its interpretation and implications.
- Working towards or having BA/BS in a technical field, preferably Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering.
- Experience using Solidworks or similar CAD program
- Hands-on abilities - The ideal candidate is not afraid to get their hands dirty in the lab to fabricate prototypes using various construction methods (Woodworking, Sheet-metal fabrication, 3D printing, etc)
- Willing and able to spend significant time in laboratory and workshop environments.
- Collaborate with other engineers across R&D and work with engineering technicians
- Strong communication skills in written, spoken, and graphical forms
- Creativity and problem solving skills, demonstrated ability to learn on the job and acquire new skills and a can-do attitude
