Job SummaryIn this role, the Product Insights & Innovation Technician will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of the Product Insights group. The Product Insights charter is to further leverage GAF competitive advantages in order to refresh and defend the core business to achieve near-term growth and profitability objectives. The Technician will carry out day-to-day laboratory actions and business activities as directed to support research projects generated by Marketing, Operations, Sales, Technical Services, CARE, R&D, and Legal. The Technician must be a self-starter and results oriented individual capable of working well with others and independently while executing day-to-day initiatives. They should be fully proficient in our internal raw material, quality, finished product, and fitness-for-use (FFU) testing. Development of these data-based insights are essential for senior management to devise best-case residential marketing strategies for the futureEssential Duties
- Conducts full finished product and raw material evaluations via analytical testing that includes, but is not limited to, raw material physical properties, in-process, finished product physical properties, fitness-for-use metrics, wind testing, hot room, fusion, staining, soak, and other analysis as defined for product enhancements and/or new product qualifications.
- Conducts full competitive product analysis testing - Identifying key issues, patterns, and opportunities from generated data.
- Assists with improvement projects and conducts post trial product evaluations for Marketing, Operations, Sales, Technical Services, CARE, R&D, and Legal in support of NPD, strategic projects, and product improvement initiatives.
- Conducts product code compliance and qualification testing for regulatory agencies (e.g., ASTM 3462, AC 438, UL FUS, Florida Building Code, Miami Dade, etc)
- Supports the development of new and/or revised testing methods to include new and existing equipment evaluations.
- Assembles, operates, maintains and supports the calibration of test equipment in accordance with written procedures.
- H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) or equivalent
- Three or more years of lab experience, preferably in roofing or related manufacturing environment
- Five or more years of experience in a Quality or Manufacturing function Preferred
- Experience with test equipment, measurement systems, and basic statistics Required
- Experience with physical property or analytical testing and the accompanying equipment Required
- Demonstrated laboratory and analytical skill proficiency Preferred

- Demonstrated support for behavioral-based safety and compliance of accompanying procedures
- Intermediate laboratory and analytical skills
- Entry level knowledge of ASTM and its testing methods
- Entry level knowledge of databases (e.g., WinSPC, QualTrend, Excel, etc.)
- Intermediate level knowledge of manufacturing processes (asphalt roofing preferred)
- Entry level knowledge of Process / Continuous Improvement techniques including: auditing, Statistical Process Control, variation reduction, and Root Cause Analysis
- Associate’s degree, preferably in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math)
- Experience with analytical procedures and FFU testing practices
- Knowledge of ASTM and its testing methods
