Job Summary And Qualifications

Consistent with Galen’s mission to deliver nursing education in an approach immersed in innovation, technology, and student support, the purpose of this position is to assist students in their growth and development as nursing students by serving as the student’s primary point of contact while providing guidance and resource referrals as the student progresses through the program. Advisors will assist students by constructing and monitoring advising plans to support student retention and program completion.

Position Responsibilities

  • Meets regularly with advisees to facilitate a collaborative relationship between advisor and student.
  • Monitors and advises identified at-risk students, including, but not limited to, students who are readmitted, repeating courses, and students with marginal grades in target courses.
  • Collaborates with targeted advisees to create personalized advising plans.
  • Monitors student compliance with personalized advising plans.
  • Participates in the collection of data to identify issues affecting student progression.
  • Assists leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating proactive plans to address student concerns.
  • Collaborates with faculty, staff, and academic leadership regarding students’ academic performance and resource referral needs.
  • Responds to escalated alerts for assigned students.
  • Collaborates with college-wide and campus leadership to facilitate orientation and other events to promote student success.
  • Develops and hosts workshops and produce related student resources according to the advisor’s expertise.
  • In collaboration with the advising team, creates, implements, and maintains advising resources for the college.
  • Collaborates with the enrollment team and the Office of Academic Records in order to provide support for students during the enrollment process.
  • Maintains documentation of all student interactions in the Student Information System.
  • Collaborates with campus leadership and campus Retention Council on campus-wide retention initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • Education: Minimum Bachelor’s degree with a major in education or related field. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Special Qualifications: Effective interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to utilize remote technology in order to connect with students. Advisors should plan for extended hours during pre-registration advising.
  • Degree of Supervision: Dependent upon experience.
