Role Description
We seek a skilled and dedicated family law legal assistant to join our team. This part-time role is based in Los Angeles, California, with the flexibility for remote work as desired. As a family law legal assistant at Galen Gentry Law Group, you will play a crucial role in assisting our attorneys in all aspects of family law matters, including case preparation, document management, legal research, client communication, and administrative tasks.
Qualifications—We are a well-established, skills-based, and fair-chance employer—a college degree or paralegal certificate is not a heavily weighted factor in determining who will receive an offer of employment.
- Native or bilingual proficiency with various languages - desired
- Demonstrable proficiency in the required tasks and operational experience in family law matters are the critical factors determining the hourly compensation rate.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a family law legal assistant.
- Strong knowledge of family law procedures, court rules, and legal terminology.
- Proficiency in legal research.
- Proficiency using case management software: myCase, Clio Draft.
- Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Pro, including advanced edit capabilities, advanced protection, and multi-party e-signature features.
- Proficiency in submitting documents for e-filing via various CA state-verified e-file platforms.
- Proficiency with filing via standard mail when counties specify hard copies required for processing.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation - strong knowledge of all California family law forms.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently with clients.
- Demonstrated professionalism and confidentiality.
- Proficiency in identifying from various case materials the deadline for responding to motions, determining when the response must be served to the opposing party or their counsel, and determining due dates for discovery requests, which have statutory deadlines for serving responses.
- High competency in managing shared calendars and adding specific details to the dates identified from the preceding required qualification.
- Proficiency with Google Business and Microsoft Office applications.
Direct experience with divorce and paternity cases is preferred.
Guaranteed Hours: minimum 20 required hours per week, ideally 4 hours a day, Monday through Friday.
Flexibility: You can choose your working hours as long the attorney you work with is aware of when you are available. Tasks have deadlines, but same-day completion is rare. Occasionally, tasks must be completed on the same day, especially for procedural deadlines. You are more than welcome to work from anywhere. This is a 100% remote position but a strong knowledge of the procedural aspect of California family law is a must.
Additional Hours: More work is available if you are interested, with ongoing weekly opportunities for increased hours.

Optional: Attend trials with the lead attorney and help prosecute or defend the trial or contested hearing.

Pay: $27.00 - $35.00 per hour
