Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care to our animal patients and supporting our veterinary staff in delivering exceptional service. Responsibilities
- Assist the veterinarian during examinations.
- Manage appointments and rooms.
- Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, serums, and treatments, as prescribed by the veterinarian.
- Perform routine dental cleanings on animals under the direction of the veterinarian.
- Administer anesthesia to animals, under the direction of the veterinarian, and monitor animals’ responses to anesthetics so that dosages can be adjusted.
- Obtain radiographs of animals with knowledge of proper positioning and techniques.
- Care for and monitor the condition of animals recovering from surgery.
- Client communications.
- Managing record requests between other hospitals and specialty practices.
- Fill prescriptions.
- Discharge patients.
- Client education.
- Assist in cleaning the hospital.
- Process payment transactions.
- Maintain proper documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Relay appropriate information to/from clients to doctors and/or management.
- Computer skills: Able to use Windows based computer systems, word processing, email, web search and other skills needed to effectively use the practice management software program.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in animal handling or veterinary settings is required.
- Previous surgical assistance experience is required.
