What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shop Foreman position at Gallatin County, MT?
This position is the Shop Foreman and Junk Vehicle Director for the Road and Bridge department. This position responds to and resolves or repairs vehicle and equipment problems; schedules work for crusher operators and shop personnel; conducts field observations and oversees equipment operation; administers shop operations and budget; responds to junk vehicle complaints; and manages the junk vehicle program budget. This position reports to the Road and Bridge Superintendent and directly supervises the shop positions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:The position requires knowledge of road and bridge construction operations and equipment repair; junk vehicle program regulations and requirements; budgeting; training techniques; electronics and electrical repair; MSHA regulations; OSHA regulations; DOT specifications; supervisory principles and practices; and program requirements. The position requires skill in the operation of road construction and maintenance equipment (e.g., bulldozers, snowplows, graders, dump trucks, crusher, etc.); and the ability to identify the need for repairs, determine whether safety is an issue, prioritize and plan repairs based on budget, safety, and other factors, compile budgets, direct work crews or mechanics repairing or operating specialized equipment, and resolve any equipment problems that occur throughout construction project implementation (e.g., equipment failure).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:The required knowledge, skills and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school plus five years of progressively responsible mechanical and shop administration experience, including experience as a foreman. Ongoing annual training is required in several areas (e.g., CPR, miner’s safety, junk vehicle seminar, etc.). The position also requires a Class A CDL, Type 1 driver’s license with air brake endorsement.
As a condition of hire, the final candidate will be required to successfully pass a criminal history check and background investigation and will be required to successfully pass pre-employment drug testing and will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing thereafter.
