POSITION OVERVIEW

Under general supervision of the Shop Foreman, this position is responsible for performing manual labor, operating various light equipment and tools. This position also provides operational support to the Road, Bridge, Shop and Junk Vehicle Department and performs a wide variety of other duties as assigned. This position reports to the Shop Foreman and does not supervise other personnel. Full-time Winter work hours are 7 : 00 A.M. - 3 : 30 P.M. Mon - Fri. Full-time Summer work hours are 6 : 00 A.M. - 4 : 30 P.M. Tues - Fri

QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires knowledge and skills in equipment and tool operations, and basic mechanical diagnosis and repair. The position also requires the ability to effectively and regularly perform labor intensive work under adverse site conditions, coordinate tasks and procedures with others, and the ability to monitor and maintain safety protocols.

The position also requires a valid driver's license issued by the State of Montana or attain a Montana driver's license within six months of hire and be insurable under the County's liability policies.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

The required knowledge, skills and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma plus one (1) year of related experience in light equipment and small tool operations, light automotive repair, or related trade / technical field.

As a condition of hire, the final candidate will be required to successfully pass a criminal history check and background investigation and will be required to successfully pass pre-employment drug testing and will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing thereafter.

Sick Leave - Full-time employees accrue 7.40 hours per month and are eligible to use sick leave once it is accrued. The accrual is pro-rated for part-time employees.

Vacation Leave - Full-time employees accrue 9.20 hours per month and are eligible to use leave once it is accrued. The accrual is pro-rated for part-time employees.

Holidays - The County observes eleven legal holidays in even numbered years and ten legal holidays in odd numbered years.

Paid Parental Leave (PPL)- In recognition of the importance of bonding and care of a newborn child or a child placed for adoption, Gallatin County provides 240 hours of PPL to eligible full-time employees. The hours are pro-rated for part-time employees.
