JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Group Exercise Instructor is integral in creating a positive and encouraging environment welcoming to all YMCA members, while being an enthusiastic representative of the Gallatin Valley YMCA. Under the guidance and supervision of the Health and Wellness Director, the Instructor is responsible for meeting member’s needs, maintaining a safe environment, and guiding members through group fitness classes.
The Group Exercise Instructor will assist members in building and maintaining a healthy lifestyle and guide members through this process by providing upbeat, safe positive class experiences, support and motivation.
Requirements:ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Lead group exercise classes.
- Conduct energizing, fun, motivational and safe exercise classes that engage members.
- Understand fitness principles, along with specific experience in strength training, cardiovascular training and overall health and wellness.
- Possess the ability to work with varying wellness levels regardless of age, gender, race, socioeconomic status, lifestyle or fitness level.
- Ability to engage in member conversations and build genuine relationships creating a welcoming environment for all people.
- Meet the standard for attendance, punctuality and dependability.
- Exercise confidentiality and professionalism as it relates to office or personnel.
- Exercises good judgment around areas of responsibility relating to group exercise classes and customer service.
- Ability to operate and contribute to a team environment by communicating regularly with team, and promoting Y values.
- Subbing when needed.
- Effectively communicating with the supervisor about issues and challenges that arise.
- Consistently monitor member feedback and participation in classes and provide information to the Health and Wellness Director at least monthly.
- Check group exercise equipment each class to ensure proper maintenance.
- Maintain working knowledge of wellness and fitness trends to provide effective information and support to members.
- Ability to attend trainings and meetings as required, even if scheduled outside normal working or regular scheduled hours.
- Demonstrate passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA.
- Promote and market YMCA health and wellness programs in the community.
- Products or services that are not a part of YMCA programs shall not be promoted or endorsed by any employee to any member or guest whether the employee is “on the clock” or not.
