Summary :
Reporting to the Director of Athletics and Physical Education, the Athletics and After School Program Coordinator oversees and coordinates all activities within the KDES After School Program for students in grades pre-k to eight.
Job Description :
- Designs and implements programs for the KDES After School Program, including academic and enrichment activities for students.
- Oversees the KDES athletic program, assessing student interest, establishing teams, and hiring and training coaches.
- Coordinates scheduling within KDES and with other schools or athletic leagues, including managing logistics such as officials, fees, and communications.
- Ensures that the athletic program is tailored to meet the diverse needs of individual students, considering their interests, disabilities, special talents, and individual unique learning styles and paces; and verifies eligibility for all students under National Deaf Interscholastic Athletic Association (NDIAA) regulations.
- Researches best practices in after school programming to enhance student academic achievement, support curricula and develop the whole child.
- Coordinates the KDES After School Program and Athletics budget in collaboration with the Clerc Center Athletic Director and KDES Leadership Team.
- Collaborates with the coordinators across Clerc Center academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities to enhance student experiences.
- Facilitates communication, resource sharing, and program development to ensure cohesive and integrated programming.
- Participates in regular staff meetings; arranges and attends athletic functions and Middle School league meetings; and implements and ensures personnel involved in managing interscholastic sports attend clinics, workshops, and other training activities.
- Provides direct supervision to students in the after school program and ensures safe and effective operations; oversees processes for student check in and check out and parent permissions; and coordinates all communications and arrangements for students who are not picked up from the program, including any needed agency involvement (e.g. Child Protective Services).
- Oversees hiring of all after school program personnel in alignment with Clerc Center policies and procedures; supervises and assigns after school program staff; ensures payment of compensation by coordinating paperwork; provides in-service training for staff including a review of current policies, procedures, rules and regulations; and evaluates staff and provides ongoing feedback and development.
- Coordinates inventory, ordering, storage, repair, and maintenance of equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
- Coordinates the planning and preparation of KDES Field Days; tournaments, and special extra-curricular and athletic events; and maintains master calendar of all after school program activities and events.
- Coordinates physical exams for KDES students participating in sports activities through Student Health Services; and ensures proper medical attention in case of injury during practices or games.
- Maintains permanent records for each sport, including wins, losses, and outstanding records; organizes awards recognition program for athletic accomplishments.
- Participants in the KDES school community, attending and supporting Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) events, KPTA meetings, schoolwide assemblies, and other community engagement initiatives.
- Assists in managing and supervising any fundraising projects sponsored by the KDES Athletic Department and projects co-sponsored by KDES and other organizations.
- Handles supervisory responsibilities for KDES athletic facilities, home games and tournaments.
- Serves as a backup to other athletic team members on an as-needed basis.
- Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisor.
- Shows a genuine commitment to community engagement and belonging in the workplace and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.
- Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.
- Prioritizes safety in the workplace as a collective responsibility for the well-being of employees and fosters a culture of safety that is integral to our success, including strict adherence to safety procedures and protocols, as well as promptly reporting any safety hazards or incidents.
