Job Description:
OVERVIEW: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing customized medications, ensuring accuracy, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. This role requires a high level of precision, attention to detail, and knowledge of pharmaceutical compounding techniques. Prior compounding experience is not required but preferred.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications.
- Process and fill prescriptions accurately.
- Maintain patient records.
- Provide customer service by answering questions and addressing patient concerns.
- Operate and troubleshoot pharmacy automation systems.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations regarding pharmacy operations.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and organized pharmacy workspace.
- Prepare compounded medications, including sterile and non-sterile formulations, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Follow proper procedures for measuring, mixing, and packaging compounded medications.
- Maintain accurate records of all compounded prescriptions and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Adhere to USP guidelines as applicable.
- Ensure proper storage, labeling, and handling of compounded medications.
- Perform quality control checks on all compounded medications to ensure accuracy and safety.
- Assist in inventory management, ordering, and stocking of compounding supplies.
- Maintain compliance with all pharmacy policies and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with pharmacists, healthcare providers, and patients regarding compounding needs.
- Participate in ongoing training and continuing education to stay up to date with compounding best practices.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification required.
- Prior experience in pharmaceutical compounding, either sterile or non-sterile, is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of pharmacy laws and regulations related to compounding.
- Strong mathematical skills for precise measurements and calculations.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a cleanroom environment and follow strict safety protocols.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
- Proficiency in using pharmacy software and technology.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Manual dexterity to handle lab equipment and small pharmaceutical ingredients.
