Position Summary:
The Senior Cost Accountant will play a key role in managing and analyzing cost-related activities in a complex manufacturing environment. This individual will be responsible for analyzing standard vs. actual costs, leading inventory reconciliations, supporting audits, and working closely with the production and engineering teams to ensure accurate and timely routing updates. Proficiency in Sage X3 is required.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Accounting & Analysis
- Maintain and update standard costs for raw materials, labor, and overhead in Sage X3.
- Analyze standard vs. actual costs to identify variances; investigate root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Perform monthly cost roll-ups and variance analysis (purchase price, usage, labor, overhead, and routing).
- Support new product costing and margin analysis.
- Prepare and analyze manufacturing cost reports to assist management in decision-making.
Production Collaboration & Routing Accuracy
- Partner with production and engineering teams to review and validate routings and bills of materials (BOMs).
- Ensure routing updates are completed accurately and in a timely manner to reflect real manufacturing operations.
- Monitor labor and machine time for accuracy and identify process inefficiencies.
Inventory Management & Reconciliation
- Perform monthly and year-end inventory reconciliations including WIP, finished goods, and raw materials.
- Support cycle count and physical inventory processes, including variance analysis and adjustments.
- Identify inventory valuation discrepancies and coordinate resolution across departments.
Audit & Compliance
- Prepare and provide cost-related documentation and analysis for internal and external audits.
- Ensure cost accounting processes comply with corporate policies and US GAAP.
- Assist with SOX/internal controls documentation and testing, if applicable.
ERP & Reporting
- Leverage Sage X3 for all cost accounting functions, reporting, and reconciliations.
- Design and generate cost and margin reports to support cross-functional teams and leadership.
- Develop cost accounting procedures and best practices to improve accuracy and efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in Sage X3 ERP or similar is required.
- Strong understanding of standard cost vs. actual cost analysis, variance reporting, and cost control.
- Hands-on experience with routing, BOM validation, and collaboration with engineering and production teams.
- Experience with inventory reconciliation, cycle counting, and physical inventory procedures.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and audit experience (internal and/or external).
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, modeling).
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- High attention to detail with a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
