What You'll Do:
- Investigate assigned reportable diseases and conditions according to protocol for analysis by the program director and diagnosis by the Local Health Authority (LHA)
- Research guidelines from the CDC and DSHS on disease prevention and control
- Assist with public health preparedness response planning
- Develop policies and procedures to support public health preparedness and response
- Collect and verify case data, submit early notification of findings or potential public health threats
- Identify treated and untreated contacts for disease control
- Research and present state and national guidelines for disease prevention and control
- Track and investigate elevated childhood blood levels
- Participate as a member of the 24/7 on-call team
- Monitor health data through active and passive surveillance
- Assist in preparing monthly reports for the United Board of Health
- Prepare reports for immunization, outbreak tracking, and public health emergency preparedness (PHEP) for DSHS
- Enter completed cases into the NEDDS database and perform quality assurance reviews
- Review and abstract medical records, lab results, and other healthcare documents
- Manage disease registries and databases (blood lead, hepatitis)
- Educate the public and medical professionals about disease prevention and reporting
- Liaise with medical facilities and other stakeholders involved in disease reporting
- Coordinate elevated blood lead activities
- Serve as backup to the Epidemiology Manager when needed
- Respond to disease outbreaks, emergency situations, and public health disasters
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
What We're Looking For:
- Master's degree in Public Health, Natural Sciences, or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in epidemiology, tracking, and investigating reportable health conditions
- Previous experience as a public health epidemiologist in a government setting preferred
- Bilingual in Spanish is helpful, but not required
- Must maintain 24/7 accessibility for potential emergencies
- Must have a satisfactory DMV/MVR background check
- Ability to provide spur-of-the-moment transportation without relying on organization vehicles
- Must pass a criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening
- Customer service-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and data entry systems
- Ability to work evening and weekend hours if necessary
- Must comply with GCHD immunization policies and ICS training requirements
