Galveston County Health District is seeking a Public Health Nurse (RN) Tuberculosis Program Nurse!
This position is responsible for a variety of public health nursing services that benefit community populations in Galveston County, and for the oversight and management of all components of the GCHD Tuberculosis Program.

Required :
Graduation from an accredited nursing program
Current licensure as a RN to practice in the State of Texas by the Texas Board of Nursing
1 years of experience as a Registered Nurse
Experience in a local health department and / or any experience using population-based activities to address a public
health concern is preferred
Skill in providing clinical nursing assessments and routine nursing procedures
Ability to exercise sound clinical judgment and reasoning in the assessment of patients
Ability to follow Standing Delegation Orders (SDOs) of a licensed physician and / or county health authority
1 years of supervisory / program management experience
Current Heath Care Provider CPR
Excellent presentation skills and / or training background and / or experience and understanding of adult learning
principles
Must be familiar with the operations of a healthcare organization, current trends and changes within the healthcare
industry, state and federal compliance and regulatory standards
Must possess or ability to readily obtain a valid drivers license issued by the State of Texas for the type of vehicle or
equipment operated.
Ability for spur of the moment transportation without relying on organization vehicles
Customer Service Oriented
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent Computer Skills MS Office
Must be willing and able to work evening and weekend hours if necessary
Must be in compliance with GCHD Immunizations policy
Must be in compliance with ICS training requirements
An equivalent combination of education and work experience which appropriately demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above-described essential functions will be considered when hiring for this role.
Traditional Duties :
Perform activities as outlined by the DSHS Preventative Health Services Block grant including, but not limited to,
participate in community health activities, GCHD Flu campaign and Back to School Immunizations campaign, actively
participate in emergency and COVID relate response as necessary (i.e., vaccines, testing, treating) etc.
Adhere to current grant requirements that call for activities that mobilize community partnerships in identifying and
solving community health problems.
Actively promote monthly health and wellness activities for GCHD staff.
Perform nursing duties which aid in the protection and promotion of the public's health.
Perform other clinical tasks as designated by the Local Health Authority under Standing Delegation Orders (SDOs) in
accordance with the Texas Medical Board and Nursing Board.
Perform immunizations at designated clinics.
Perform direct observed therapy and clinical care for tuberculosis patients.
Perform home visits including home assessments for elevated blood lead levels.
Maintain monthly logs to provide accountability for services rendered.
Gather and report statistical data monthly on outreach completed.
Provide orientation, education, and supervision of staff nurses, students and auxiliary workers and volunteers on Public
Health and the role of Public Health Nurses.
Assist with Tuberculosis, STI Express Clinic and Immunization Program areas.
Must be willing to perform phlebotomy (blood draws), sputum collections, urine analysis collection.
Understands and follows GCHD Infection Control policies, plans, procedures and guidelines related to program area
requirements.
Properly disposes of biohazard waste.
Provides direct and comprehensive patient care and case management to all TB clients according to GCHD standing
delegation orders authorized by the Local Health Authority or designee and maintains accurate documentation
Identifies and manages contact investigations
Provides high-risk population screenings and follow-up management
Provides assessment and management of TB clients in nurse clinics and during home visits
Responds to disease outreach and high-risk exposures follows Universal and Isolation Precautions
Maintains current procedures on all applicable ordinances, laws, and acts affecting the proper disposal of medical waste
and TB quarantine procedures
Provides technical assistance and treatment guidance to community health partners
Prepares charts for review by TB Clinician and / or Local Health Authority and assists in patient and chart assessments, in
the process of initiating procedures and / or orders for the testing, treatment of persons infected with TB, treatment of TB
patients non-compliant with medication, quarantine orders for TB patients and / or other similar public health threats
Prepares annual and semi-annual reports for submission to Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS)
Works closely with Chief Nursing Officer and Grant Manager for program budget management
Works with Chief Nursing Officer and Local Health Authority to assess program effectiveness and efficiency, to identify
barriers, to develop improvement plans, to design special outreach programs in the community, etc.
Provides orientation and educational training, and directly performing all activities necessary to maintain all TB program
responsibilities
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
