Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Supervises, directs and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Coordinates, assigns, and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors the status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
- Assists with developing and administering department policies, procedures, goals, objectives and priorities.
- Monitors and assesses department workload; delegates work and modifies objectives and work plans as necessary.
- Assist with ensuring the proper construction of county roads; plans and schedules the maintenance and construction of major drainage crossings.
- Plans and schedules the maintenance of ditches and county rights-of-way; coordinates the mowing and herbicide spray program.
- Assist with Developing, monitoring, and administering the annual department budget; approve department payroll, leave, and purchases.
- Represents the department and assists other departments, elected officials, and other governmental entities.
- Assist with directing and supervising employees in hurricane preparation as directed by the Emergency Operation Plan and the county's R.O.W. debris management plan post-natural disaster.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- Requires Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering or related major.
- Requires eight years of progressively responsible experience in public road construction and maintenance operations or closely related experience.
