Description
The purpose of this class is to design, implement, manage and optimize the County's data center infrastructure, enterprise directory services, and virtualization.
Job Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary
- Acts as lead technical expert for Active Directory and related technologies, providing guidance and mentoring to other administrators, staff and IT teams. Design, configure and manage a multi-forest, multi-domain Active Directory environment for high availability and security. Architect Active Directory infrastructure to support operational needs, including server roles, replication and trusts.
- Lead the deployment and optimization of VMWare vSphere environments, managing ESXi hosts, virtual machines and storage. Manage virtual networks and storage in VMWare to ensure optimal VM performance and availability. Troubleshoot complex virtualization issues related to performance, capacity and resource allocation.
- Lead the integration and management of Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, Sharepoint Online, OneDrive, Teams and Intune. Ensure seamless synchronization between Active Directory and Azure AD on-premises. Identity and access management best practices in Microsoft 365, including secure authentication (MFA) and role-based access control (RBAC).
- Design and manage enterprise storage systems, ensuring data integrity, availability and disaster recovery capabilities. Monitor and optimize storage performance.
- Oversee and implement backup and disaster recovery solutions for enterprise-critical systems, ensuring compliance with organizational SLAs and recovery point objectives. Implement and optimize backup strategies to ensure critical data is regularly backed up and can be restored with minimal downtime.
- Configure and troubleshoot hybrid environments, including DHCP, DNS, CA and Group Policy Object, adhering to the highest standards and best practices.
- Automate administrative tasks with PowerShell scripts for optimized management and reporting.
- Oversee the health, performance and maintenance of the enterprise data center infrastructure, ensuring systems run optimally and cost-effectively. Implement and maintain datacenter redundancy and failover strategies to ensure high availability.
- Manage Windows Server environments (including physical and virtualized), ensuring systems are secure, patched and compliant with industry standards.
- Administer and support the Windows client system. Ensure timely patch management through Windows Update Services (WSUS), applying patches and updates according to security protocols and SLAs.
- Works with the SOC to assist in investigations and reporting on infrastructure components.
- Mentors, coordinates and provides guidance to division team members towards resolution of issues and project completion. Serves as escalation point for junior subject matter experts.
- Collaborates within functional and cross-functional teams on large-scale IT projects, providing leadership and expertise to ensure successful execution on initiatives, solving problems, and growing capabilities.
- Participates in disaster planning, preparation, recovery, and testing as required.
- Troubleshoots issues with vendors; evaluate vendor products, services, and suggestions.
- Provides after-hours support for Infrastructure related emergencies as well occasional weekend maintenance.
- Performs related work as assigned.
