What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director position at Galveston County?
The purpose of this class is to manage the daily operations and ensure all County Facilities operate safely and efficiently.The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery, and chemicals. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
Emergency Preparedness Tier Level: 1
- Plans, organizes and executes projects while meeting constraints like budgets and schedules.
- Identify project goals and scope, allocate resources, and manage all project resources.
- Identifying and managing risks involved with the project
- Tracks progress and makes adjustments to keep projects on schedule
- Communicate with stakeholders on the progress of various projects
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Coordinates, assigns, and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
- Managing and budgeting various service contracts for janitorial services, utilities, waste management, elevator maintenance, lawn services, ground maintenance, and alarm services.
- Assists with formulating and maintaining the departmental budget.
- Provides excellent support to County employees and residents in response to concerns, repairs, and requests.
- Assists with managing the building automation systems for county facilities.
- Interviews recommends, hires, trains, assigns, schedules, directs, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in facilities management, construction management, or a closely related major.
- Requires eight years of experience, of which four are in a supervisory position, in facilities management, construction, code enforcement or closely related experience.
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
