What are the responsibilities and job description for the Reserve Deputy Constable - Non-Paid position at Galveston County?
The purpose of this class is to perform criminal warrant and civil process service, court bailiff, court security, border security rotations and patrol duties, as assigned.
- Serves civil process papers, to include citations, summons, subpoenas, writs, forcible detainers, and restraining and protective orders.
- Serves misdemeanor and felony warrants; makes arrests of individuals or provides backup to other agencies in making arrests.
- Reviews civil papers and warrants for proper and complete information.
- Serves as bailiff during court sessions; introduces judge, provides court security, and takes control and custody of prisoners.
- Serves as school crossing guard.
- Enforces traffic laws.
- Transfers prisoners to and from county jail.
- Responds to local police department calls.
- Escorts Tax Office personnel to banks for deposits.
- Provides assistance to citizens with disabled vehicles.
- Patrols assigned areas to detect and deter crime.
- Assists other law enforcement agency personnel as needed.
- Assists other law enforcement agency personnel as needed.
- Regular rotations to serve as part of border security taskforce and be deployed to the border for this operation is necessary.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
- Be 21 years of age minimum, no maximum age limit.
- Have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
- Have an honorable discharge only (If a military veteran)
- Be U.S. Citizen
- Hold a Valid Texas driver's license.
- Pass a physical examination.
- Have eye-sight correctable to 20/20
- Have normal hearing meaning no more than 25 dB of hearing loss.
- Be able to pass entry level written testing.
- Show no trace of illegal drug usage.
- Have never been convicted of a crime greater than a Class B Misdemeanor.
- Be able pass a psychological evaluation.
- Applicants will be interviewed and may attend more than one interview during the application process. This may include one-on-one and board interviews.
- Applicants must complete all phases of required testing.
- Applicants must be willing to accept any assignment or shift.
- A thorough background investigation will be completed on all applicants.
- Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
- Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
- The work is typically performed sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.
- The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors. Potentially dangerous situations contribute to the complexity of the position.
- Emergency Preparedness Tier Level: 1
- This position requires at a minimum a Peace Officer Intermediate Proficiency Certificate from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)
