ABOUT THE PARK BOARD OF TRUSTEES

In 1963, the citizens of Galveston voted to create a specialized unit of government called the Park Board of Trustees of the City of Galveston. The organization is responsible for overseeing Galveston's tourism efforts, Galveston Island Beach Patrol (GIPB) and Coastal Zone Management (CZM). The Park Board is funded primarily through Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) and beach user fees for the six parks that they manage. Tourism pays for tourism as no sales or property tax is collected by the Park Board. The nine-member board is comprised of volunteer residents with diverse business backgrounds. Each is required to serve at least two years and must also serve on one of the Park Board's advisory committees.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PARK MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

As a Facilities Management / Park Maintenance Technician, you help keep this historic beach destination beautiful, functional, and an overall wonderful place for both tourism and local enjoyment. Each day, you check the buildings, grounds, restrooms, and other guest facilities to ensure everything is clean and in working order. Whenever you find a minor issue, you perform the routine maintenance needed, including basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work. Always tidy, you also routinely clean your workspace, tools, and equipment as well as maintain cleaning inventory. You also perform some groundskeeping as needed. Nurturing the natural beauty of the park, you pick up any loose trash, and deposit trash bags in the dumpsters.

While performing park walkthroughs, you promote good public relations through friendly, helpful, and accurate communication with park visitors. When a visitor comes to you with concerns, you empathetically resolve the issue to the best of your abilities and refer escalated issues to the on-duty manager as necessary. You diligently monitor safety and maintenance requirements and promptly report any issues or supply needs to the Park Manager. As a team player, you work effectively with other employees, assisting in any other job tasks associated with successful operations. Staying organized and keeping the park in pristine condition make you feel good, and that is why you are a great groundskeeper!

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A FACILITIES MANAGEMENT / PARK MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

• At least 18 years of age
• Basic mechanical and maintenance or repair experience
• Basic math skills and ability to process cash and credit card transactions with the aid of a calculator or computer
• Willingness to receive training to become a Certified Tourism Ambassador
• English Fluency, both verbally and in writing
• Valid Class C driver's license
• Ability to operate basic power and hand tools
• Ability to operate a passenger vehicle, golf cart, and all-terrain vehicle
• Ability to operate heavy machinery
• Ability to stand and walk for 8 hours a day
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs

Being bilingual is preferred but multiple factors will be taken into consideration. Having your high school diploma (or equivalent) would also be a plus! Are you able to work independently? WORK SCHEDULE FOR A FACILITIES MANAGEMENT / PARK MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

As a full-time property maintenance technician, you work a day-time schedule with possible other shifts depending on operational needs. This includes holidays, weekends, and various weather conditions.
