Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from an approved school of Respiratory Therapy, or completion of the associate degree equivalency, and successful passage of the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) exam.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS OR CERTIFICATIONS
Required:
Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
Must maintain credentials with the NBRC as well as licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) with the Texas Department of State Health Services. Current BLS and ACLS.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
- PFT testing and/or Bronchoscopy experience.
- · Must maintain credentials with the NBRC as well as licensure as a Respiratory Care
- Practitioner (RCP) with the Texas Department of State Health Services.
- 3-4 years’ experience Respiratory Therapist

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Identifies and reviews patient diagnosis/patient care needs and the contraindications and possible complications of patients of performing pulmonary function testing.
- Demonstrate proficiency in department workflow and scheduling appointments.
- Performs and becomes proficient in pulmonary function testing including but not limited to spirometry, lung volumes, diffusion, arterial blood gases, cardiopulmonary exercising testing, six-minute walks, respiratory pressures, bronchoprovocation, impedance oscillometry, pentamidine treatments, exercise-induce bronchospasm, and bronchoscopy per department policies.
- Documents appropriately in testing software, patient medical record, and department charting.
- Maintains knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
- Assist in maintaining supply requirements in department and stocks inventory as needed.
- Recognizes education/experience limitations and seeks expertise as needed.
- Participates in department meetings and trainings.
- Becomes proficient in calibrations, quality control, analyzer functions, surveys, and inspections.
- Demonstrates initiative and accepts continual learning environment and constructive feedback.
- Works well in team environment and independently.
- Adheres to assigned work schedule, annual training, and other job duties as assigned.
Marginal or Periodic Functions:
- Meets periodic UTMB and department specific compliance requirements for health screening, training, attendance, safety, and CPR.
- Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work well with a medical team and under the direct supervision of a physician.
- Possess a broad knowledge of the pathophysiology of the cardiopulmonary system and the complex procedures required to properly diagnose and treat patient.
Salary:
$29.92 - $46.55; Salary commensurate with experience
