Job description
Under general guidance and with limited supervision, the Assistant Store Leader assists in the leadership of store operations including building a successful team, developing customer loyalty, driving for results, and achieving goals set for the store. As needed to achieve success, an Assistant Store Leader is responsible for motivating sales teams, managing the day-to-day operations of the store, maintaining up to date promotional material and hiring/training new staff. This position supervises others including Senior Guest Advisors, Guest Advisors, and Seasonal Associates. Assistant Store Leaders will always act in accordance with GameStop’s policies, practices, and core values. The ideal candidate must have a strong focus on customer satisfaction and meeting monthly sales goals, be an excellent communicator and demonstrate strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in motivating the sales team to meet sales objectives and loss prevention goals by training and mentoring staff
- Assist in hiring, training, and overseeing new store staff
- Assist in coaching and counseling associates, monitoring and reviewing sales results
- Assist in leading associates to drive a selling culture that maximizes store profitability
- Deliver excellent service to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction
- Resolve customer concerns and complaints in a timely and professional manner
- Ensure that visual and operational elements are consistent with company standards
- Protect company assets through effective inventory control and loss prevention practices

BASIC AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE)
- Must be at least 18 years of age and present state-required proof of age documents
- Must be able to provide genuine and friendly assistance to every guest during every visit
- High school diploma or GED required; An Associate’s or accredited Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred
- Three or more years of retail sales, guest service, and/or management/leadership experience required; at least 1 year of retail management experience preferred
- Must be able to work alone and move throughout the store unassisted, for extended periods (up to 8 hours per day)
- Must be able to lift and/or move objects and displays (up to 35 lbs.), bend, stoop, reach with arms and hands, and climb on ladders
- Must be able to work a minimum of 32 hours per week
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, JOB SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Must be able to provide exceptional guest service skills
- Proficient ability to communicate effectively with others using spoken and written English
- Ability to lead in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment that includes multiple overlapping priorities
- Proficient knowledge of operating a point-of-sale computer system and properly completing required paperwork
- Proficient understanding of basic math functions (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
- Working knowledge of alphabetizing
- Proficient self-motivation and ability to work as a team to complete necessary tasks in a timely manner
- Proficient problem solving skills and judgment abilities
- Proficient ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
- Ability to deliver bank deposits according to loss prevention safety guidelines
- Ability to work extended hours/days as necessary, including Sundays
- Ability to remain effective under pressure; ability to handle stress in a manner that is acceptable to others and to the organization
