A public company is looking for a dynamic General Counsel. The General Counsel will report to the CEO and lead the company’s international legal team. This attorney will provide comprehensive legal advice on complex matters, serve as a strategic adviser to the company’s global executive team, assess and mitigate risks, and ensure legal compliance at all levels of the company. This role requires a highly motivated, proactive General Counsel with international experience and a strong understanding of U.S. publicly traded companies.
Responsibilities:
- Provide counsel on a wide range of legal issues, including e-commerce, intellectual property, SEC/securities, commercial matters, employment, and corporate governance.
- Act as a key member of the company’s leadership team.
- Provide subject matter expertise and strategic legal advice to the executive team.
- Oversee all legal services to accomplish company goals, strategies, and priorities. Manage the global legal team, inspiring, influencing, and leading team members to reach company goals; promote growth and goal attainment in a collaborative, respectful, and high-performance work environment.
- Anticipate issues and provide legal opinions and recommendations to mitigate risks.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
- Manage the company’s active lawsuits and other dispute matters.
- Oversee outside counsel work product.
- Be experienced, knowledgeable, and up to date on e-commerce legal issues and news.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- General Counsel or Depute General Counsel experience at a public company.
- 5 years in-house experience.
- Experience managing and supervising a legal department.
- Expertise in capital markets.
- Experience with emerging markets a plus.
- Affinity for or experience in Africa a plus.
- Knowledge of German law a plus.
- Willingness to travel to Africa to meet operational teams for 4 days every 2 months.
- Experience leading and influencing at all levels within an organization.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Exceptional negotiation skills with the ability to reason and compromise.
- Excellent strategic decision-making, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong communication, analytical, legal writing, and problem-solving skills.
- Detail oriented and well organized with an ability to manage multiple projects at once.

Compensation Range & Benefits:
- $ 350,000 - $400,000, plus equity.
