The Indianapolis Star/indystar.com, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is offering a winter/spring politics and government reporting internship to help our two-person state politics team cover primary elections and the legislative session in a critical year for Indiana.
In addition to the presidential election, the state has an open U.S. Senate race and an open, multicandidate gubernatorial race. In addition, recent sessions of the General Assembly have brought legislation on education, transgender rights, criminal justice and abortion, among other issues.
It's an exciting opportunity for a student or recent grad with student newspaper and/or internship experience to get hands-on experience writing a variety of breaking, trending and enterprise stories on a high-profile beat. The internship will run from early January through May.
Requirements:• Candidates must be students or recent graduates of a four-year college or university.• Prior experience working for a college publication and/or as an intern.• Attention to detail.• Strong organizational skills.• Ability to multitask.• Availability to work weekends.• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.• Employment is contingent on passing a post-offer, pre-employment background check and drug screen.
