We’re seeking a Trending and Social Video Specialist loves to be at the center of the conversation no matter the topic.
Our Trending and Social Video Specialist is a pro at finding out what people are talking about and finding the sharpest angle to connect with our audience. Our Trending and Social Video Specialist is comfortable in an array of coverage spaces, and understands the critical need for video that connects people to our storytelling in all forms
There is classic urgency required: video needs for fast-developing local stories will often be spearheaded by the trending and social video specialist

The Trending and Social Video Specialist will be part of a tightly knit newsroom that is comfortable working with all our journalists to create, package and promote video that resonates.
Our newsroom uses search trends, social tools and metrics programs to tell stories across a wide range of topics in a diverse array of formats, from social graphics and video to Q&As.
The Trending and Social Video Specialist will guide the team in finding the right opportunities and ensuring we're delivering video in the right tone, format and on the right platforms. This person will work closely with USA TODAY’s large network of National and Local Trending reporters to coordinate the production and distribution of trending video content, particularly UGC video to accompany articles. The Trending and Social Video Specialist will search for trending UGC content across social platforms and work to secure rights to these videos as well as constantly monitor our third-party partners for the best UGC/Trending video content to pitch to the local and national trending teams.
This candidate should be capable of suggesting visually compelling ways to tell stories, have strong interviewing and AP stylebook writing skills, and be highly proficient in metadata writing as well as SEO considerations.
The position demands initiative, accuracy, urgency and insight. It also demands strong news judgment and the ability to identify stories and trends that are immediate, important and influential.
This Trending and Social Video Specialist can juggle producing, editing and acquiring video. The person who fills this position needs to be able to self-assign and reprioritize in real-time.

Responsibilities
- Responsible for overseeing and executing all aspects of trending video production including writing, researching, planning, coordinating logistics, technical production, script approval and video editing.
- Manage and coordinate daily trending assignments, future planning and programming.
- Provide editorial, copyright and rights management guidance.
- Create and manage connections across the USA TODAY Network of reporters, writers, producers, editors, and digital managers, to coordinate requests and ideas.
- Responsible for tracking trending articles and video performance metrics for on platform, mobile, and app video view reporting on a daily, monthly, and as needed basis.
- Ensure video is published with SEO best practices.
- Responsible for communication with third-party partners to fulfill trending video content needs.
- Ensure video content drives a variety of revenue opportunities across multiple platforms including on-platform, syndication, and social.
- Handle other essential tasks as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong editorial experience.
- Experience working in a newsroom.
- Experience producing video content for digital platforms.
- Understanding of digital media platforms, OTT platforms and social media including YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and TikTok.
- Experience coordinating and planning coverage.
- Experience with copyright and rights management issues.
- Experience implementing SEO best practices and writing metadata for videos.
- Strong editorial decision-making skills.
- Writing and producing for digital and social video platform.
- Understanding of web technology, CMS systems, digital video, digital audio, livestreaming, video editing, and web analytics.
- Excellent communications skills, online and in person, with the community and fellow journalists.
- Works collaboratively
- Experience using After Effects, Adobe Premiere and Adobe Photoshop is preferred.
