The Perinatology Research Branch (PRB), Division of Intramural Research (DIR), NICHD is seeking a Scientific Publications Specialist to support the dissemination of cutting-edge research on pregnancy, labor, and perinatal medicine. This role is crucial in ensuring that groundbreaking discoveries are accurately communicated to the scientific community through high-impact biomedical publications.
Position Overview
As a Scientific Publications Specialist, you will play a key role in managing the lifecycle of scientific manuscripts, ensuring compliance with NIH publication requirements, and facilitating the peer-review process. You will work closely with researchers, editors, and publishers to refine manuscripts, track submissions, and develop engaging content that highlights the PRB’s contributions to maternal-fetal medicine.
Key Responsibilities
- Edit, review, and prepare scientific manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed biomedical journals.
- Oversee the manuscript submission process, ensuring compliance with NIH policies, including M-Trac clearance and NIH Manuscript Submission (NIHMS) requirements.
- Conduct plagiarism checks using iThenticate or similar software.
- Assist researchers in refining language, syntax, and formatting to meet journal standards.
- Coordinate copyright permissions and licensing for previously published materials.
- Track and manage the lifecycle of each manuscript using database software such as Microsoft Access.
- Develop reports, presentations, and written materials to communicate research findings to internal and external stakeholders.
- Support the development and production of annual and quadrennial research publications.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to prepare presentations and communication materials.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a relevant field such as English, scientific communication, biomedical sciences, or technical writing. Master's degree preferred.
- Strong background in scientific writing, editing, and publishing.
- Familiarity with the peer-review process and manuscript submission requirements for biomedical journals.
- Experience with academic publishing tools and manuscript tracking systems.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.
Salary : $65,000 - $90,000
