What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Officer (Part-Time) (Autoimmunity) position at GAP Solutions?
Position Objective: Provide services as a Part-Time Medical Officer in support of the overall functions of the Autoimmunity and Mucosal Immunology Branch (AMIB) of the Division of Allergy, Immunology and Transplantation (DAIT) within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review and comment on the scientific merit and the design of clinical trials and observational studies related to autoimmune diseases, inborn errors of immunity or other DAIT projects as directed that are proposed or planned to be conducted by DAIT-funded clinical networks, investigator-initiated clinical trials, or other DAIT studies as assigned.
- Work cooperatively with AMIB Program Managers, Regulatory Officers and DAIT/NIAID-funded investigators in advancing and finalizing the design and organization of clinical trials and observational studies in autoimmune diseases, inborn errors of immunity or other DAIT projects as directed.
- Ensure that clinical trial and observational study protocols related to autoimmune diseases, immune tolerance, inborn errors in immunity or other DAIT projects as directed, undergo appropriate reviews and meet milestones towards study activation.
- Assume the role of Medical Monitor for clinical trials and large observational studies related to autoimmune diseases, inborn errors of immunity or other DAIT projects as directed and ensure, in cooperation with AMIB Program Managers, Regulatory Officers and other staff that the studies are conducted under current Good Clinical Practice (GCP) principles and guidelines.
- Work cooperatively with DAIT network leadership, study investigators, statisticians and data and clinical coordinating centers in evaluating study and network management, operational progress and study compliance as well as conducting data analysis and planning, drafting and reviewing publications derived from DAIT-funded clinical networks or investigator-initiated clinical trials and observational studies related to autoimmune diseases, immune tolerance, inborn errors in immunity or other DAIT projects as directed
- Participate in AMIB, DAIT and NIAID regular and ad hoc staff meetings and meetings with visiting scientists or other NIAID visitors.
- Provide expert opinion on scientific questions in the fields of autoimmune diseases,
- immune tolerance, inborn errors of immunity or other immune-mediated DAIT projects.
Basic Qualifications:
- Required MD degree with active US medical license.
- Minimum of two (2) years of related experience.
- Required training in clinical immunology or training in internal medicine or pediatrics with demonstrable clinical experience in autoimmunity.
- Required prior involvement in clinical trials as an investigator or medical monitor.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with non-technical and technical staff
- Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects
