Job Description:
Although no two garages are the same, the following describes what we typically do in each garage.
We remove everything from our customer's garage and place it on the driveway in groups of categories. We do this so the customer can take inventory of everything they have and to separate what to keep, what to donate and what to throw away.
We vacuum the entire garage, including the ceilings and walls, and dust off or wipe all cabinets, shelves, workbenches, refrigerator, etc. We also dust off or wipe all customer's belongings. We also either pressure wash or mop the floor.
After the garage is clean, we assemble and/or install storage solutions such as metal standing shelves, overhead racks, wall storage systems, etc., that will help get the garage organized.
Then, we bring everything back into the garage and organize it by category, such as sporting items, camping stuff, tools, etc. Our main goal is to make the garage functional for the customer and to leave everything accessible and easy to find.
We also offer junk removal service, in which case we would load our truck or trailer with the customer's trash and take it to a landfill. We also haul away donations and recycle boxes.
DESCRIPTION OF A VERY TOUGH DAY:
A garage completely full of stuff such as furniture, boxes, and even trash. This garage has been like this for years, which means there is a lot of dust and dead rodents. We estimated this job to take 6 hours to complete, but because we couldn't see the pile of small stuff underneath everything else during the initial consultation, it ends up taking us 10 hours.
Between the 10 hours of work, at least 1 hour of lunch, and 2 hours of travel time between our warehouse and the customer's house, we end up having an unexpected 13-hour-day.
Now this job of course happens on a day when it's either very hot in the middle of summer, or very cold during the winter. We find furniture and items weighting in excess of 75 pounds; we get a little rash or two because of an allergic reaction to something we touched despite using gloves; we cut ourselves with something sharp hidden in the middle of the mess; and on top of all that, our customer is not handling the chaos too well and freaks out on us.
In the end, after all the sweat and tears, we regain control of this very messy garage. We feel proud of our work and the customer is very appreciative of everything we've done.
DESCRIPTION OF A VERY EASY DAY:
A garage with no trash, no dead rodents, it takes us exactly 3 hours as estimated, and 2 of those hours we spend it assembling cabinets. House is only 15 minutes away from our warehouse, very nice 72-degree day, no heavy lifting, no cuts nor allergy reactions, and the customer is super chill the entire time. On top of that, we get a $200 tip and a free lunch.
