The Garden City Hotel, a AAA Four Diamond luxury hotel and a Long Island landmark since 1874, is an iconic retreat beloved for its timeless elegance and modern-day comfort. Spacious guest rooms, luxurious suites, first-class culinary team and genuine hospitality are hallmarks of this historic hotel located just 15 miles from Manhattan. We are looking for self-motivated and experienced individuals who will assist us in continuing to provide the excellent level of service for which The Garden City Hotel is known.

We currently have a career opportunity available for an experienced Laundry Supervisor.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Supervise, train and inspect the performance of assigned Laundry Attendants, Valet Attendants ensuring that all procedures are completed to the hotel's standards. Assist where necessary to ensure optimum service to employees.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:

  • Availability 8:30 - 5:00pm including weekends and Holiday
  • 1 year Management experience in laundry/dry cleaning position.
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques and chemical handling, requirements and use of equipment.
  • High school graduate.
  • Fluency in English both verbal and non-verbal.
  • Compute mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to:
  • perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy.

  • follow directions thoroughly.
  • understand employee needs.
  • work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team.

  • ascertain departmental training needs and provide such training.
  • direct performance of staff and follow up with corrections when needed.
  • Desirable:
  • Management experience.
  • Previous guest relations training.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Requirements:

  • Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended.
  • Anticipate guest needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all guests, however busy and whatever time of day.
  • Maintain positive guest relations at all times.
  • Resolve guest complaints, ensuring guest’s satisfaction.
  • Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned work areas.
  • Ensure that assigned staff have reported to work; document any late or absent employees.
  • Coordinate breaks for assigned staff.
  • Prepare and distribute assignment sheets to assigned staff and review priorities.
  • Communicate additions or changes to the assignment sheets as they arise throughout the shift.
  • Check supply levels in storage closets. Complete requisition for additional supplies needed and submit to manager.
  • Check for proper supplies, neatness, cleanliness and mechanical problems. Instruct designated personnel to correct deficiencies.
  • Accommodate guest requests for Housekeeping items or additional supplies expediently and courteously. Follow up on delivery and return of all such items per management request.
  • Conduct training of staff as assigned.
  • Provide feedback on staff performance to manager. Report disciplinary problems to manager and participate in the counseling of employees.
  • Document pertinent information in department log book.
  • Complete all paperwork and closing duties before leaving. Review status of assignments and any follow-up action with manager and/or on-coming supervisor.
  • This is a full time position that requires flexibility with scheduling including weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and holidays
  • Excellent customer service, communication and computer skills are required Hotel experience preferred
