What are the responsibilities and job description for the Varsity Tennis Coach position at GARDEN SCHOOL?
Founded in 1923, Garden School is a small, lower tuition NYC Nursery through 12th grade independent school in one of the most diverse neighborhoods on the planet, Jackson Heights, Queens. Garden School approaches its centennial with the same enthusiasm as always, to educate the whole person across a broad curriculum, preparing them to be caring, engaged citizens for the world ahead. We believe it is a school’s job to spark, acknowledge, and promote the passions and interests of children, and look for faculty and staff who embody these goals. The Garden experience is built upon a professional and caring relationship among teachers, students, families, and administrators and a firm commitment to understand, interpret and present each child as an individual. While Garden School is the most global of all NYC schools with students and families from across the world, we are a small school with a very tight community.
Garden School is apart of the NYSAIS and competes in the ISAL against independent schools across NYC. This candidate will oversee the team along with the Director of Athletics and Assistant Director of Athletics.
An ideal candidate will possess at least 1-2 years of past playing or coaching experience at the collegiate, high school or club level. We are looking for a coach who are communicative, enthusiastic, caring and eager to teach our student-athletes. This candidate would also ideally have a background on player development.
Practices take place after school and will take place up to 3 days per week. The coach will work directly with the Athletic Director & Varsity Coach scheduling practices, games and potential strength and conditioning workouts.
Candidates are required to have First Aid, CPR and Concussion certifications.
We are looking to hire a coach to start for our first practice on 3/3/25, and the season will run until Mid-May. Please include your resume, and provide a brief cover letter on your experience and why you are a fit for this position. Please do not submit a resume or cover letter that does not include your previous coaching experience.
Garden School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, creed, religion, ethnicity, age, national origin, gender, or sexual orientation in its hiring and promotion of administrators, faculty and staff, and in its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and financial aid programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
