JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: MECHANIC/MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT
FLSA Status: NON - EXEMPT /HOURLY
Work Schedule:
Mon.-Fri. 6 A.M. - 2:30 P.M.
Start Date: ASAP
Reports to (primary): Maintenance Technician
Reports to (secondary): Warehouse Manager
Supervises: N/A
Position Summary
The Maintenance Assistant performs skilled work for and with the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor in the maintenance and repairs of the building components, systems and equipment and ancillary areas. The primary function of the Mechanic Assistant at GSCS - Carteret, is to maintain the material handling equipment and warehouse equipment, through regular checks, repairs, reporting and documenting all incidents (MHE Manufacturers: Crown & Raymond). The job entails physical mechanical work to material handling equipment, warehouse and office doors, lights etc. as well as clerical documentation of work that must be kept in an organized file system.
Essential Job Functions
1.Works in compliance with all Company Safety Policies while also following guidelines set forth by OSHA.
2.Repair and maintain all warehouse machinery which includes but not limited to forklifts, other lift equipment, refrigeration equipment and compressors. Minor plumbing and electrical work may be required at times.
3.Conduct regular inspections of forklifts to ensure they are in proper working condition.
4.Check water levels in batteries to ensure proper levels are being maintained and fill when needed.
5.Performs preventative maintenance/routine tasks according to pre-determined daily, weekly and monthly schedules based on the piece of equipment.
6.Keep records of work performed on all equipment.
7.Checks that all building lights are functioning.
8.Assist in installing, repairing equipment. Knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems is important. (Will provide Training with Instructions)
9.Take temperatures throughout the facility daily to ensure temperatures are correct.
10.Keeps maintenance shop and engine room clean and organized.
11.Crating PO’s for all orders.
12.Using email and computers
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
1.Knowledge of working on material handling equipment (Manufacturer’s: Crown & Raymond)
2.2 years experience working on mechanical equipment
3.Ability to use a computer and email

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is subject the following work environment:
1.The employee is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.
2.The employee is required to work on a dock.
3.The employee is subject to extreme cold: temperatures typically between 35-40 degrees Fahrenheit and occasionally may be exposed to temperatures of zero degrees Fahrenheit.
4.The employee is subject to hazards including moving pallets; material and/or equipment handling.
5.The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
