What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Assistant position at Gardens Dermatology?
Position Responsibilities:
Answer calls from reference labs and staff regarding patient account inquiries
Ensure that all departmental calls are returned by close of business each day
Always wear name tag and identify yourself on the phone
Courteous interactions with patients, providers and co workers
Check office email and EMA-Intramail throughout the day
Document details of all conversations and activity in the patient chart
Assist the Mohs Technician on Mohs Surgery Dates as needed (Example: Preparing Tissue, Staining, Cover Slipping, etc.
Provide coverage when Mohs Technician is out of the office. Preparing Mohs Slides for following Mohs Surgery Day or week as needed
Grossing of the Biopsies and Excisions twice daily as needed
Assist in changing the Processor every two weeks
Operate and maintain cryostat machine as needed
Monitor and stock supplies as needed.
Type Demographics for Gardens Dermatology Laboratory Requisitions after Tech processes them
Log Reports from GDL, Dermpath Diagnostics, LabCorp and Quest
Log Binder/Culture Log Binder, pull charts, stamp, attach reports and place on Provider’s Desk
Attach all E-Labs in EMA to the correct patient and print reports throughout the day
Work with Dermatopathologist a couple of times a week typing the GDL Path Reports
Responsible for Send-Out Requests (Slides/Block) to different facilities
Adhere to Lab practices and protocols
Primary job duties are in the Laboratory but may also be asked to perform other duties as directed by Practice Administrator, Provider or Supervisor
Position Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Science required
Mohs Technician Certification preferred or have experience performing Mohs
Minimum of 2-year experience in Dermatology preferred. Ability to abstract and interpret documents such a medical, clinical, and operative reports
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, CPT, ICD-10, clinical documentation, and medical billing processes
Attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of EMA preferred
Ability to multi-task as well as prioritize workload
Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills
Ability to use time productively and contribute to high levels of company operational efficiency and effectiveness
Ability to respond positively to constructive criticism and direction from supervisor
Must remain compliant with HIPAA, OSHA, and CLIA requirements
Promotes a positive work environment in which team members work together
Always maintain confidentiality of information

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
