Position Summary
The superintendent is a crucial part of our team leading field staff on the job site to ensure work is completed on-time and upholds our commitment to excellence. You will oversee multiple projects simultaneously, and will supervise all onsite work from the outset of the project through completion. You are responsible for coordinating all site construction activities between field staff and trade partners, maintaining safety and quality standards, proactively problem-solving any issues that arise, and facilitating communication between field staff, trade partners, and project managers. Responsibilities:
- Schedule, coordinate, and oversee the daily construction activities for team members and trade partners
- Monitor job progress and completion: Evaluate job progress and update progress log. Ensure all work is completed on schedule to project requirements and specifications. Supervise completion of final punch list.
- Promote safety: Maintain safe, clean, and organized work environment. Ensure safety protocols are met, encourage proactive safety practices, and rectify job site hazards immediately.
- Lead field staff and trade partners: Estimate appropriate staffing needs and schedule staff to maximize quality and efficiency. Ensure trade partner staffing levels are consistent to maintain project schedule. Communicate job expectations to all field personnel. Complete quality inspections of trade partners and field personnel. Plan, organize and host weekly foremen meetings.
- Procurement: Order materials and schedule inspections as necessary throughout the project. Troubleshoot potential schedule and design conflicts and proactively find solutions.
- Scheduling: Create and update progress of full project schedule, including logic relationships between activities, with all construction activities. Update and distribute the full project schedule and 3-week roller schedule to the project team on a weekly basis.
- Administration: Maintain daily job site work records.
- Act as a hospitable point of contact and facilitate effective communication between multiple internal and external project partners.
- Quickly and professionally resolve all issues that may arise with the project on the job site, assuming responsibility and mobilizing appropriate parties.
- Work nights, weekends, holidays as required by the project
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of the technical aspects of commercial construction
- Ability to read architectural plans and specifications
- Knowledge of proper job site safety regulations
- Understanding of the scope, performance metrics, and standards of each trade partner
- Knowledge of the permitting and inspection process with the various area jurisdictional authorities
- Ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously and exercise independent judgment related to the daily administration of projects
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to manage logistics, planning, and scheduling
- Ability to anticipate needs, adapt to changing priorities, proactively find solutions, and execute decisions
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a collaborative team environment
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to relay highly detailed information among multiple project contacts
- Proficiency with keyboarding, email, MS Excel, MS Word, construction management software (Procore preferred), scheduling software (Primavera preferred) and Apple devices
Qualifications:
- 4 years of experience as a superintendent in commercial construction
- OSHA certified
- Experience leading and scheduling integrated teams
- Experience with drywall, finish carpentry, or millwork preferred
- Experience within tenant improvement construction preferred
