GARDNER MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Licensed as a Principal (grades 5-8) by the Massachusetts Department of Education.
- Master’s Degree or higher.
- Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching and/or administrative experience.

COACHING: Receive monthly coaching and PD from Boston College’s Lynch Leadership Academy
JOB GOAL: Establish and maintain a Culture of Achievement where every child, in every classroom every day: feels welcomed, safe, and included in the school community; has adults consistently interact in ways that foster positive supportive relationships; and is engaged in relevant, academically rigorous instruction, informed by data. Responsible for the day-to-day operations, instructional programming, and mental health supports of Gardner Middle School (GMS). Supervise and support 3 administrators (Special Education Administrator, MTSS Administrator, and an Assistant Principal) and approximately 75 staff and 500 students (grades 5-7).
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Champion and oversee the successful implementation of the district’s Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) for Social/Emotional Learning, PBIS, and Academic Success for GMS.
- Lead the Building Leadership Team made up of the four administrators and eight teacher leaders to design and implement ongoing, embedded, and relevant professional development to improve academic and SEL outcomes for students.
- Collaboratively work with building administrators and teacher leaders to ensure Common Planning Time teams design and implement grade-level, rigorous lessons that provide support for our most marginalized students.
- Make thoughtful, timely decisions based on data.
- Provide instructional leadership through classroom observations and feedback to teachers, modeling effective teaching practices, and fostering a Culture of Achievement where ALL students learn at a high level.
- Maintain positive relationships and provide transparent communication with families and local community groups to foster understanding and support for school programs.
- Develop collaborative, working relationships with district and school administrators and staff.
- Serve as a member and/or leader on teams and committees as directed by the superintendent.
- Prepare and manage the school’s $4.8 million annual budget.
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of reports and records required by district administration or the State of Massachusetts.
- Assume responsibility for the implementation and observance of all School Committee policies and state and local regulations.
- Hold students and staff accountable for school-wide behavioral expectations through a robust PBIS program and by following due process requirements.
- Collaborate with the building's administrative team to recruit, hire, train, and evaluate all middle school staff.
- Ensure the school’s successful implementation of the district crisis plans.
- Implement other duties as assigned by the superintendent.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12-month position; salary & work year established by the superintendent
