QUALIFICATIONS:
- Qualified to do journeyman-level carpentry and masonry duties.
- Enhanced knowledge of and ability to provide carpentry, plumbing, electrical, heating, and masonry services.
- 3-5 years of previous related experience.
- Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.
- Must be able to walk, climb, stoop, reach and bend, climb and work on ladders.
- Must lift to 50 pounds and occasionally move or lift to 75 pounds.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Be available to work a flexible schedule and overtime when necessary.
REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities
JOB GOAL: Work as part of a team to maintain and repair school grounds and buildings with a high degree
of skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains a broad knowledge of tools, materials, systems, and code requirements for maintaining K-12 school facilities.
- Responds to school emergencies and closures, including adverse weather, to ensure that all facilities are protected and remain operational. Assists with tasks required in preparing to open campuses after a closure, including snow and ice removal, systems and equipment checks, and start-up operations as assigned.
- Perform a variety of preventive maintenance and general maintenance repair work of equipment, buildings, and facilities, including painting, carpentry, roofing masonry, concrete work, and other related building repair tasks.
- Repairs and maintains various facilities systems, components, and structures; repairs building plumbing, electrical systems, door hardware, lockers, fire, life safety, security protection equipment/systems, sprinkler systems, sensors, and other related systems.
- Performs preventative maintenance on air handling units; cleans and inspects all equipment; completes filter changes; lubricates equipment; and services other heating, air conditioning, ventilation, cooling, and refrigeration systems.
- Accesses and adjusts computerized control systems, such as lighting or energy management systems, and troubleshoots control system problems.
- Perform athletic field and grounds maintenance, including mowing, aerifying, topdressing, seeding, sodding, trimming, field painting, irrigation, and turf care; installation and care of trees and shrubs; proper pruning techniques, and tree removal.
- Performs the duties associated with events, including set up, break down, and other required tasks as required for each event. Also, ensure the spaces/areas are returned to their original state.
- Perform tasks with various office and classroom setup/relocation, including moving furniture, equipment, or other related requests.
- Accesses the computerized maintenance system to track, monitor, manage, and enter electronic records and work orders as they relate to preventative maintenance and repair.
- Maintains other appropriate records and reports.
- Operates school vehicles, tools, and equipment and is responsible for safely operating and reporting any observed maintenance needs.
- Performs service and preventative maintenance on tools, small motorized equipment, and automotive vehicles; troubleshoots equipment problems and identifies when an external service provider is appropriate to make repairs or perform warranty work.
- Knows and understands all the school’s safety procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities or Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time, year-round position.
EVALUATION: The performance of this position will be evaluated by the Director of Facilities and the Director
of Finance & Operations
