Gardner-Webb University is seeking a part-time Charlotte Center Operations Assistant to support the effective functioning of the Charlotte Center during evenings and weekends. Reporting directly to the Charlotte Center Manager and under the guidance of the Assistant Provost for Academic Affairs, this position plays a key role in ensuring a welcoming, secure, and well-maintained environment for students, faculty, and guests.
The duties of this position are as follows:
- Maintain an on-site presence during scheduled evening and weekend hours to assist with Center operations.
- Serve as the first point of contact for faculty, students, and visitors during these hours.
- Assist with classroom assignments, space setup, and general scheduling coordination.
- Support internal communication regarding facility use and operational updates.
Facilities & Event Support
- Open and secure the building for classes and events.
- Set up and take down tables, chairs, and technology equipment for events, classes, and seminars.
- Perform light housekeeping duties (e.g., restocking restrooms, cleaning high-traffic areas, trash collection).
- Monitor facility condition and report issues or maintenance needs.
Safety & Security
- Greet and log all visitors entering the Charlotte Center.
- Monitor building and parking areas for safety concerns.
- Respond to on-site emergencies by contacting authorities (911) and following up with an incident report to the Charlotte Center Manager.
- Act as a liaison for safety-related issues and escalate concerns when appropriate.
Communication & Customer Service
- Collaborate with the Charlotte Center Manager to communicate updates related to scheduling, inclement weather, and facility needs.
- Establish a friendly and professional presence while supporting students, faculty, and staff.
- Respond to concerns or complaints and refer issues to the appropriate university personnel.

- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time and tasks independently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues and work professionally in a dynamic environment.
- Comfortable performing light manual tasks and operating basic academic technology and equipment.
Work Schedule
- Evenings: 3:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
- Weekends: 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
A flexible combination of these shifts is expected, including during times of inclement weather or campus emergencies to ensure continued support for Charlotte Center operations.
Physical & Cognitive Requirements
- Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds independently on a frequent basis.
- Work may involve dusty or non-climate-controlled areas.
- Must be able to read, interpret, and follow instructions, safety literature, and procedural documents.
- Capable of using good judgment in responding to challenges or safety concerns on-site.
