SUPERVISION:
Non-Supervisory.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
- Caseworker A: Under close supervision, assumes responsibility for cases and develops the skills necessary to provide services to client population.
- Caseworker B: Under minimal supervision, performs all essential functions. Assumes responsibility for more complex cases. May assist in training Caseworker A.
GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
Provide a variety of routine and complex professional social work duties, including areas such as child abuse and neglect; youth in conflict; adults unable to protect their own interests; family resources; and adoption.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Caseworker A:
- Under close supervision, develops the skills necessary to provide services to client population.
- For routine cases, investigates and performs needs assessment. Gathers information, identifies problems, and determines level of risk.
- Establishes goals. Develops and implements a written plan for services with objectives, action steps to achieve the objectives, and measurable outcomes.
- Determines appropriate collateral contacts and conducts interviews.
- Monitors progress according to plan objectives.
- Coordinates with law enforcement when necessary.
- Sets up medical or psychological/psychiatric assessments as needed.
- Attends and participates in court hearings as needed.
- Compile and submit a comprehensive annual report for the courts
- Transports clients as necessary or required.
- Records findings in appropriate database.
- Determines the level of risk to the individual.
- Determines what services and interventions will assure the individual’s safety in the home.
- Coordinates with Supervisor and Program Manager on critical decisions.
- Provides information and referral services to applicants who do not qualify for Medicaid LTC services in addition to providing this same service to clients who do qualify for Medicaid LTC services.
- Provides care planning services to include development of a service plan, arrangement of alternative services, identification of appropriate support and community resources and determination of the cost effectiveness of the use of alternative services. Develops, locates, and coordinates services in the community to maintain client’s highest level of independence within the cost containment.
- Provides ongoing case management services which involve regular home visits to clients to assure the effectiveness of services, and to determine client capacity.
Caseworker B:
- Under minimal supervision, performs all essential functions of Caseworker A.
- Assumes responsibility for more complex cases.
- May assist in training Caseworker A.
