Safety, Compliance, & Loss Prevention
- Provides safety-related leadership across all County functions, promoting an injury and illness-free workplace; reviews, develops, and updates safety-related policies and procedures as required by law or as necessary.
- Monitors safety program for loss prevention opportunities. Leads efforts towards the reduction in the number, severity, and cost of county-related workplace accidents and injuries. Develops safety programs for all departments. Ensures departments follow established safety programs and expectations.
- Develops and provides training on various safety topics to employees. Facilitates and conducts safety training and coordinates training with internal and external subject matter experts; develops training content, including presentations and training materials; ensures all training is tracked in the appropriate database. Ensures that all employees receive required safety-related training.
- Inspects facilities, equipment, and records for compliance with safety and health standards.
- Works with department heads to identify and mitigate department-specific risks and to reduce injuries/incidents. Develops and reports on risk metrics and methodologies.
- Reviews and evaluates all safety policies and procedures. Designs and directs programs to reduce accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards through safety training of supervisors and employees, planned inspections, skill training, and emergency preparedness. Ensures all departments operate within safety policies and procedures through site visits, meetings, drafting loss prevention/safety manuals, and advises on policies and processes to mitigate future loss
- Coordinates and conducts quarterly Safety Committee meetings; prepares agendas and informational packets, and implementation of corrective actions related to safety concerns. This position also coordinates the Quarterly Risk Management Team Meeting.
- Insurance Policy & Internal Policy Administration:
- Coordinates with County Administration & County Attorney’s office on policy renewals. Submits volunteer insurance applications annually.
- Coordinates with the department heads and acts as the central coordinator of department-specific insurance policies and ensures the policy applications are submitted annually. The specific policies that have been assigned to this position are the Concert Cancellation Insurance Policy, Airport Insurance Coverage, and the Network Security Insurance Policy.
- Responds to requests by departments for Certificate of Insurance (CIO) for internal contracts with other entities.
- Issues and tracks auto insurance cards to all county Vehicles and coordinates with Motor Pool.
- Coordinates with Motor Pool and supervisors to administer the Motor Pool policy to employees.
- Claim Administration & Investigation:
- Responsible for filing auto claims and coordinating with Motor Pool. Point of contact for property claims and coordinates with the County Attorney’s office.
- Investigates all workplace injuries and accidents and workers’ compensation and liability insurance claims and provides information for completion of claims processing.
- Coordinates with HR on workers’ compensation claims as needed, and assists with safety-related changes in workspaces.
- Other duties as assigned.
