- Teach English as a Second Language (ESL to English Learners (ELs) in a self-contained ESL classroom and/or co-teach in Sheltered Content Immersion (SCI) classrooms
- Co-plan, coteach, co-assess, and co-reflect with assigned Sheltered Content Immersion (SCI) core-academic teacher(s)
- Teach explicit ESL to students at varying English Proficiency levels, aligned to WIDA 2020 Standards
- Develop and refine in-district ESL content-integrated curriculum maps, aligned to MA Frameworks and WIDA 2020 Standards.
- Administer and grade EL department common assessments and adjust practice to ensure student growth in listening, speaking, reading, and writing
- Develop, implement, and consistently monitor language goals and objectives for students and keep parents informed about student language development progress
- Communicate regularly with families via email, face-to-face meetings, and communication apps and participate in district and school-based parent engagement events
- Work with the Special Education department as applicable to discuss EL-SWD culturally and linguistically relevant IEP development, accommodations, and modifications, aligned to EL’s language proficiency level and disability.
- Actively collaborate with other members of the department and team
Qualifications:
- Massachusetts certification as an ESL teacher (5-12), required
- Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement, required
- Working knowledge of the Massachusetts Core-Content Frameworks and WIDA 2020 ELD Standards
- Knowledge of second language learning and sheltering content, Massachusetts ESL Model Curriculum Units (MCUs), standard and alternative methods of assessment, and data-driven instruction
- Demonstrated ability to co-teach in the SEI classroom: course work and/or experience in co-planning, coteaching, co-assessment, and co-reflection with a Sheltered Content Immersion (SCI) core-academic teacher
- Experience working with Students with Limited and/or Interrupted Formal Education (SLIFE) and English learner-students with disabilities (ELSWD)
- Excellent computer/technology skills with the ability to utilize various computer software and app programs
- Committed to the vision of high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, the achievement of academic and linguistic proficiency for all students, and the closing of the opportunity gap
- A self-reflective, active learner capable of interactive dialogue with all members of the school community
- Bilingual candidates preferred
