What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substation and Controls position at Garkane Energy Cooperative?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Engineer Manager installs inspects, tests, maintains, repairs and installs equipment and facilities associated with the Cooperative’s SCADA Controls and System Monitoring facilities. Provides technical support to Cooperative employees as assigned. Works in accordance with OSHA and Garkane Energy Safety Policies. Under the direction of the Engineer Manager installs, inspects, tests, maintains Hydro generation plant equipment and controls. Supervises and supports Hydro Plant Operators to provide safe and efficient operation of the plant. Provides after-hours support to the Boulder Plant Operators during plant outages and equipment failures. Under the direction of the Engineer Manager upgrades, maintains and improves Garkane’s load monitoring systems and historical load archives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10 years experience as a substation technician with electrical and electronic theory certifications is preferred.
- Must have experience installing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and testing relays and associated electronic equipment.
- Must have the ability to use necessary testing equipment and interpret the results.
- Must be able to use a computer to type reports, enter data and program/diagnose equipment.
- Must be able to read, interpret and create equipment and controls schematics.
- Must have a verifiable safe driving record.
- Must be aerial lift certified.
- Must have sufficient physical health to perform the essential functions, duties, and responsibilities of the job.
- Must be able to address work situations that frequently require changes using different techniques, procedures, or degrees of attentiveness without loss of effectiveness or composure while adhering to requirements and achieving satisfactory levels of performance.
- Must have a positive attitude toward safety and accident prevention.
- Must be able to read, interpret and demonstrate practical and theoretical knowledge of blueprints, maintenance manuals, technical manuals, electrical and electronic circuits, and electrical equipment operating at power system frequency.
- Must have the ability to analyze test results for the purpose of locating and remedying trouble in such circuits and equipment.
- Visual, depth perception and color differential are required for the job.
