Job Summary:
The Maintenance Mechanic - Manufacturing (Tech B) will play a significant role in the preventative maintenance and reliability of printing and converting machines in our company. This includes using mechanical and electrical skills to troubleshoot problems as well as effectively using manuals, drawings, schematics and vendor information to complete PM’s and make needed repairs. Teamwork across various maintenance and production teams will be needed to perform duties and responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety should be the top priority for all maintenance job activities.
- Assist the Maintenance Team in establishing a culture of planned maintenance by performing PM’s and assisting in the continuous improvement of the PM’s.
- Utilize computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to track work orders, record maintenance activities, and generate needed reports and asset information.
- Learn to troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical and electrical equipment issues.
- Learn to perform repairs to print deck components, make gear changes, calibrate/align optical scanners, perform roll changes, wire multitap motors.
- Learn to diagnose problems and make repairs to hydraulic, pneumatic, and/or dryer systems.
- Be able to identify broken or worn components in machines.
- Become proficient at stick, MIG and TIG welding.
- Advance ability to perform machining operations using a lathe, Bridgeport, or drill press.
- Advance ability to work with computer/PLC machine controls.
- Participate in skills progression matrix learning.
- 2 or more years’ experience as a multi-craft manufacturing maintenance technician
- Ability to work with various teammates, be approachable, easy to speak with, and have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interpret, explain, and convey various ideas and methodologies relating to troubleshooting, preventative and predictive maintenance, and theory of operation.
- Knowledge and experience with electricity/electronics, controls (industrial process), and mechanics.
- Ability to learn proactive maintenance steps on machines, systematically diagnosis problems, and implement corrective action to return equipment to full processing capacity.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret manuals, (electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical drawings), company policies, and procedures.
- Proficiency with using hand and power tools safely.
- Ability to safely work around active machinery.
- Intermediate computer skills.
- Beginning knowledge of how to check PLC inputs and outputs.
- Hearing protection is sometimes required.
- Squatting, crouching, turning, twisting, stretching, climbing steps, grabbing, pulling, pushing, and bending. On feet for 8-12 hours daily on concrete floors.
- Lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Visual and hearing acuity within normal limits
