Overview
We are seeking a full-time Software Team Leader for Networking Technologies in our Core Platfom Technology Team in Cary, NC. In this role, you will direct, coordinate and contribute to the activities of a software engineering team who deliver state-of-the-art wireless networking software and solutions.
The Networking Technologies Team is responsible for wireless networking technologies including Wi-Fi and LTE. A typical day can involve anything from driver development to application integration. Garmin's products utilize these networking technologies to enable features such as streaming video, music library management (Spotify, Amazon, etc.), over-the-air (OTA) software and map updates, sensor communication, data synchronization for our customers, and many more.

Essential Functions
- Lead a team of Software Engineers with diverse capability levels in the design of new products, enhancement of existing designs
- Participate in software design reviews as necessary, mentoring associates on good design and development practices
- Create feature development plans as directed by engineering management to ensure successful delivery of wireless solutions for a variety of products and use-cases
- Ensure the team meets milestones and development goals across a diverse set of product development plans or market requirements
- Directly supervise various levels of software team members by setting the tone for the team environment and providing individualized coaching, training and mentoring
- Conduct regular 1:1's with associates
- Participate in recruiting activities, interview, hire, train, and evaluate performance for the team
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Math, Physics or related field AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience in software leadership OR a minimum of 10 years relevant experience
- Detailed knowledge and experience with C/C on embedded systems
- Must be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment
- Previous leadership or mentorship experience
Desired Qualifications
- 3-5 years of work experience in a technical leadership role with duties including interviewing, training, associate development, performance management and aligning the team to meet organizational goals
- Minimum of one year of experience in a people leadership role with duties such as mentoring, interviewing, training, associate development, performance management and aligning the team to meet organizational goals
- Familiarity with networking protocols and standards, such as TCP/IP, UDP, PPP, PPPoE, Wi-Fi, LTE, and/or Bluetooth
- Experience debugging Wi-Fi or LTE protocols over-the-air using protocol analyzers (Wireshark, etc.)
- Experience developing with embedded Linux distributions such as Yocto
- Experience designing and developing communication protocols for systems utilizing UART, I2C, SPI and other inter-IC interfaces
- Familiarity with RF regulatory compliance testing or Wi-Fi Alliance (WFA) certification
