Overview

We are seeking a full-time Senior Cyber Security Engineer (Endpoint) in our Olathe, KS location. In this role you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and operation of Garmin’s cybersecurity services. This individual will have a strong background in information security practices and services and an understanding of the threats to enterprise environments. They will evaluate the threat landscape, identify risks to the organization, and enhance Garmin’s capabilities to protect, detect, respond, and recover from security incidents. This role will drive collaboration across cybersecurity teams and will partner with Garmin business segments as a trusted advisor to ensure services are secure. This individual will also play a key role in incident response and remediation, providing technical guidance during security incidents.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as a key technical resource for cybersecurity teams and Garmin business segments, providing expertise across multiple cybersecurity domains.
  • Lead the technical implementation and optimization of key security tools, including EDR platforms, email security suites, DNS security solutions, PAM tools, enterprise password management, forensic tools, and threat intelligence platforms.
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentoring to members, and perform a leadership role to improve the overall capabilities of the team.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance tool integrations and workflows through automation and scripting, leveraging APIs provided by security tools.
  • Develop, test, and implement Python scripts to support automation initiatives, ensuring robust and reliable operations.
  • Serve as a technical escalation point for complex security tool management challenges and collaborate with partners to enhance security posture.
  • Participate in project and program planning and maintain accurate status of overall work progress.
  • Provide mentoring and hands-on assistance to other members of the team to elevate the skills and technical acumen of the team.
  • Contribute to the design and development of complex, integrated solutions to meet business requirements or enhance the performance of Garmin’s security systems.
  • Communicate effectively regarding system operations and environmental changes.
  • Adhere to SOX, PCI, and other regulatory requirements as required.
  • Provides significant contributions to defining team roadmap and priorities. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities that increase efficiency and reduce manual processes.
  • Evaluate emerging security technologies to improve threat detection, prevention, and response. Advise leadership on strategic technology investments to advance cyber security engineering capabilities.


Other Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate broad understanding of Garmin's business model, including Engineering, Operations, Finance, Sales and Marketing.
  • Facilitate team discussions and meetings.
  • Demonstrate professional maturity through giving and receiving constructive feedback.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and resolve conflict.
  • Coordinates department level non-project changes.
  • Experience with Python, scripting and automation frameworks, ensuring continuous improvement in team capabilities.
  • Drive innovation within the Cybersecurity Engineering team. Identify gaps and enhance security operations through automation and integration of security tools.
  • Perform other duties as necessary


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Cybersecurity or another relevant field AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Outstanding academics with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge.
  • Strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others.
  • Driven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult problems.
  • Excellent time management and follow-up skills.
  • Consistently demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work documentation and organization.
  • Experience in Python for automation and scripting, with experience using APIs to integrate and enhance security tools.
  • Understanding of automation best practices and the ability to identify areas for process optimization within security operations.
  • Deep expertise in managing and optimizing security tools such as EDR, email security suites, DNS security, PAM solutions, enterprise password management, forensic tools, and threat intelligence platforms.
  • Experience leading complex security engineering initiatives and mentoring team members on best practices in security operations and automation.
  • Strong understanding of and demonstrated experience with Linux-based operating systems.
  • Experience with Windows server and desktop environments.
  • Strong understanding of core information technology services such as networking, storage, databases, and web-based services.


Desired Qualifications

  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Cybersecurity certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, ISSEP, etc.
  • Experience with Azure and AWS public cloud services.
