Position Summary
This is a position of a specialized nature requiring planning and actively carrying out a variety of activities for children and families both inside the library and out in the community.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan storytime activities as well as activities for other age groups.
- Plan and implement the Summer Reading Program annually
- Plan and implement the annual Christmas carnival
- Create/perform weekly story times, programs for teens/adults, and other library programs as needed in person
- Work closely with Events & Programs Coordinator and Fiscal Officer for budgetary needs
- Perform regular clerk duties when not engaged in programs; operate the circulation and catalog functions of the library computer systems.
- Prepare monthly activities report for the library branch.
- Create attractive library displays.
- Create a rapport with youth and families in the area to facilitate engagement
- Contact local schools for flyers/advertising, class visits, programs, etc.
- Manage program budget
- Assist patrons with office equipment (fax, copier, computer, etc.)
- Other duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to present to crowds of children/teens/adults online and/or in person.
- Ability to read aloud with correct pronunciation and emphasis
- Ability to communicate effectively with patrons
- Ability to communicate in print (e-mail, Microsoft Office, etc.).
- Ability to file alphabetically and numerically (Dewey Decimal Classification).
- Ability to type, use computers, fax machines, photocopiers, and other office equipment.
- Ability to make change and distribute money to patrons.
- Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends.
- Ability to plan ahead
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Two to five years of library experience desirable.
- Experience working with children preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of computers, social media, and other technology.

Computer/Technology Skills/Equipment/Software Skills
- Proficiency with computers and technology including Windows, Microsoft Office, mobile devices and apps, computer networks and printers, the Internet, and online databases
- Proficient use of Ohio Digital Library, Libby, Hoopla, and SEO library app
- Proficient use of Canva
Interaction
- Frequent interaction with library employees, patrons, agencies, community partners, etc.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, bend, crouch, sit, reach, and walk as necessary
