Human Service Worker I (HSWI)-Crisis and Respite Services Nighthawk
Scope of Job: Monitor the overnight situation of 24-hour crisis/respite facility and provides
Job Duties:
- Updates at the beginning of the work shift by: a) emptying and reading all correspondence from personal mailbox; b) reading and responding to email; c) listening and responding to team voicemail; d0 reviewing each team's bulletin board; e) receiving updates and night time plans from Crisis/Respite Leader on duty or other staff as necessary; f0 obtaining and covering the 24-hour cell phone and responding to calls/texts.
- Establishes a professional, caring relationship with all people being supported by the team. Has awareness of and is sensitive to each person's (and co-workers) cultural, racial, and ethnic background. Facilities voluntary participation in activities and events related to the person's background.
- Answers calls forwarded through the night from the main phone line as well as directly from people using other BHA services who need someone to talk to. Enters a written morning update on each BHA team's bulletin board and updates specific teams regarding any calls received form the BHA team service users.
- Provides interventions, including medication monitoring for residents; prompts people to sleep through the night. Completes safety checks of 24-hour crisis/respite residents throughout the night. Provides other interventions as directed and outlined by the Residential Team Leader, other managers/leader on duty, or staff as directed.
- Provides on-site coverage at the 241-hour crisis/respite facility. Monitors any situation highlighted by the evening Human Service Worker 3 (HSW3) that is a potential concern; provides interventions as necessary. Reports critical situations that happen through the night. Applies MANDT interventions in order to prevent unnecessary psychiatric and somatic hospitalizations.
- completes cleaning of common areas at the 24-hour crisis/respite facility; keeps staff office area clean and organized. Performs miscellaneous clerical tasks as directed. Checks health and safety supplies as directed. Follows established procedures for filling the shift or picking up additional responsibilities normally covered by other staff who may be off.
- Reviews all Case Notes to have an understanding of each service user's status. Audits charts upon person's discharge from the service.
- Completes all required communication via voicemail, email, and/or face-to-face updates to daytimes staff. Updates the team's bulletin board directing necessary "next shift" follow-up or indicates if all is quiet; reports the morning updates, reporting either the nightshift was quiet or reporting any communication or situations through the night involving people who use services, verbally updates 24-hour crisis/respite staff reporting for the next shift.
- Attends meetings as required. Trains new staff and interns the job duties of the team's HSW nighthawk staff. Focuses on meeting all COMAR, CARF, HIPAA regulatory requirements scheduled/assigned. Understands role as an essential employee.
- Performs other tasks related to the overall scope of the job as assigned.

Qualifications of this Position:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree allows for annual education stipend
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Good documentation skills
