Position Summary :

The primary purpose of the Front Desk Assistant is to assist the Office of Housing and Events ensure that guests, students, Faculty and Staff are welcomed on to campus cordially and represent Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary's commitment to being welcoming, and safe campus. The assistant would be greeting all who come to campus, assist with processing check-ins and check-outs of campus and housing, answering general questions, help visitors navigate campus both in person and by phone, and assist with parking in the Garrett parking lot.

Essential functions and responsibilities :

  • Efficiently navigate the seminary extension list to ensure all incoming calls are directed appropriately
  • Respond to guest inquiries and requests and resolve guest issues in a timely, friendly, and efficient manner
  • Answer inquires pertaining to location of offices and services
  • Support coordination of the Garrett Place parking lot and issue visitor parking permits
  • As needed, assist the Office of Housing and Events with housing and event needs including keys being issued to students or guests, collection of housing agreements, etc.
  • Arrange for sending and receiving of packages
  • Follow all seminary safety and security policies in reporting accidents, injuries and unsafe work conditions to the Director of Housing and Events
  • Check-in and check-out guests and serve as a resource for information related to the seminary
  • Other duties as assigned

Success factors / job competencies :

The front desk attendant is an essential role for Garrett Seminary as it is one of the first points of contact. The person in this position will need to possess the following skills sets to fulfill this role :

  • Experience with Microsoft and / or Google systems
  • Flexible schedule with ability to work late afternoon or early evening
  • Ability to show can manage multiple tasks simultaneously and can work independently
  • Experience with answering phone calls
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Customer service oriented
  • Physical demands and work environment :

    The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Physical demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, crawl, safely climb a step ladder up to 5 feet, and lift / move up to 25 pounds. Must be able to have repetitive wrist hand and / or finger movement to type and work on computer. Must have finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination to work on computer, telephone, and related office equipment. The individual will regularly be required to communicate professionally in person, over the phone, and through email; and to sit, type, and stare at a computer monitor for prolonged periods.
  • Work environment : Employee occasionally may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time but work is primarily performed indoors. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal. Occasional evening / weekend work.
