What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavior Intervention Assistant (SPECIAL EDUCATION) position at Garvey School District?
Under general supervision of Student Support Services administration and working closely with site principals, provides instruction and support to individual or small groups of students with behavioral challenges in accordance with the prescribed course of instruction. Behavior Intervention Assistants are responsible for tutoring and providing instruction to individual and small groups of students with behavioral challenges in a general education or special education classroom. Assist in meeting special needs which may include feeding and toileting students.

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Completion of two years of higher education (48 semester units) –OR- Possess an Associate of Arts degree, Associate of Science degree or higher degree. –OR- Current employees applying must have passed PTAP, the Garvey School District Local Assessment that was previously offered.
• Any combination of training, education and experience that demonstrates possession of the knowledge and ability to perform the duties of this position.
• A typical qualifying entrance background is experience working with students with disabilities, including students with autism or emotional disturbance and some demonstrated experience implementing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) based behavior intervention techniques including Discrete Trial Training (DTT).
Desirable: Bilingual in English and in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin and/or Vietnamese
