Position Summary
The QA/QC Technician is responsible for project work as supervised by the QA/QC Director.

Principle Responsibilities/Accountabilities
- Responsible for the physical inspection and verification of the work performed by GFS employees and sub-contractors in the shop and/or field.
- Acts as QA/QC Manager’s proxy in the absence of the QA/QC Manager.
- Performs Quality Control (QC) product inspections, Quality Acceptance tests of product and Quality Assurance (QA) process audits.
- Assists with the sustainment and full utilization of the project QMS (quality management system).
- Conducts of necessary Quality Plan training and QMS orientation, and the facilitation of CAPA-CI (Corrective Action and Preventive Action - Continual Improvement).
- Assures proper assembly and material is in place before welding.
- Visually inspect welding to referenced code acceptance standards.
- Checks completed assemblies for final dimensions, correct piece marks, heat numbers, welder numbers, weld dates (if required) and radiograph numbers.
- Coordinates with shop supervisor.
- Holds and Witnesses points for radiography and hydro-testing (complete and forward GFS Hold & Witness Point report Form.)
- Reviews of welder qualifications and procedures.
- Verifies proper welding procedures are being used.
- Coordinates with NDE (non-destructive exam) personnel.
- Checks technician qualifications, keep a copy on file.
- Reviews NDE films and reports.
- Coordinates with Hydro-test personnel, monitor tests, and review test reports.
- Maintains equipment calibration records.
- Performs calibrations on, or send equipment out to be calibrated.
- Maintains calibration records.
- Inspections and documentations of painting/coating process.
- Verifies painter/coater qualifications as required.
- Verifies that coating is being applied according to manufacturers and customers specifications.
- Checks wet and dry mil thickness.
- Maintains material traceability.
- Reviews contract drawings and keep revisions up-dated.
- Prepares and submits various form and QC documentation.
- Creates welder, x-ray, and heat number maps.
- Prepares turn over package.
- Monitors subcontractors for compliance with GFS quality standards.
- Supervises any repairs or re-work done by subcontractors.
- Checks all incoming materials against purchase order or bill of material to verify proper size, quantity, material type and grade.
- Compares mill test reposts and/or COC’s to all materials to verify that heat numbers match.
- Inspects all materials for damage.
- Marks material with color code and contract number.
- Segregates materials by individual contract (do not intermingle with other contracts.)
- Segregates and marks all non-conforming material DO NOT USE.
- Should damages or other discrepancies be discovered, fill out and forward GFS Material Receiving Discrepancies Form and Non-Conformance Report Form.
- Insures parts are cut from proper material.
- Verifies that pieces have been cut to specified size according to drawings or shop sketches.
- Assures that the proper contract number and piece mark is applied to all pieces.
- Makes sure all heat numbers are accurately transferred to parent material and any drops so that material traceability will be maintained.
- Checks fit-ups against contract drawings or shop sketches to insure proper assembly before welding.
- [During the contract initiation phase], may assist QA/QC Manager or work directly for The Project Manager to develop the preliminary quality plan, quality manual and related QMS documents.
- [During Planning Phase], may work with Quality Manager or Project Manager to complete the quality plan, QC/ QA and QMS documents, and Quality training/orientation.
- [During Executing and Control Phase], works for QA/QC Manager or Project Manager to conduct all required quality plan requirements and activities, and sustain the project QMS. [During Executing and Control Phase] – at Substantial Completion
- - assists QA/QC Manager or Project Manager to close-out all Construction related quality activities.
- As contractually specified, assist with additional Quality activities following Substantial Completion (i.e. May assist with final testing and commissioning)
- As directed by QA/QC Manager or Project Manager, facilitate project activities. Cooperate and coordinate with corporate/region when transitioning quality applications.
- Works closely with project management team members and may assist QA/QC Manager or Project Manager during engineering, procurement or construction work for the contract.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Understanding of Quality applications and experience with Quality Management System on project site preferred.
- Expertise professionally performing inspections, tests and audits, applying CAPA-CI tools and administering the QMS are all highly desired.
- Ability to organize and administer project QMS infrastructure on project required.
- Ability to travel and commit to long-term on-site assignments
- One (1) to two (2) years of experience using construction tools and equipment including air hammer, concrete saw, patent scaffolding, trench digging equipment, etc.
- Working knowledge of Oil and Gas Industry.
- Ability to keep company proprietary information confidential.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work successfully with a wide variety of people at different levels within the organization.
- Detail orientated with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite) and above average math skills.
- Ability to work various schedules including nights/weekends and local/regional travel

Specific Educational / Vocational Requirements
- Associate or Bachelor’s Degree helpful but not required
- Minimum of four years of relevant EPC Quality-field work experience preferred
- Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) experience strongly recommended.
