What are the responsibilities and job description for the Economic Services Caseworker I/II/III - Adult Medicaid position at Gaston County Government?
The goal of the Gaston County Human Services Center and Division of Social Services is to foster an agency which is professionally responsive to our citizens' needs through daily caring outreach and simultaneously serve as an advocate for those in need. - Determines initial and ongoing eligibility for assistance in Adult Medicaid programs to include MAA, MAB, MAD, MQB-Q, MQB-E, Long-Term-Care, CAP and Special Assistance Programs. Maintains proficiency as policy changes/updates. Interviews clients.
- Records information on required forms and in agency/state computer systems. Investigates and verifies documents related to client's information; consults with supervisory personnel on complex cases or actions. Makes computations to determine appropriate financial assistance to be allowed.
- Conducts follow up evaluations on clients according to a defined time and case management schedule. Communicates with representatives, attorneys, nursing and assisted living facilities, and hospital personnel to advise of needed information or case outcomes.
- Advises applicant of approval or denial of benefits or services; provides explanation of right of appeal and client responsibilities for continued benefits or services. Prepares hearing summaries and attends local and state hearings.
- Reads and interprets written policies and procedures applicable to federal, state and local laws related to public service assistance. Uses the online NC Fast Program, Manuals, and DSS Administrative Letters as appropriate.

ESCI:
Graduation from an accredited associate degree program in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or a closely related curriculum; OR
Graduation from high school and two years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling of data, analysis of data and/or performance of mathematical or legal tasks with at least one year of such experience being in an income maintenance program; OR
Graduation from high school and three years of professional, clerical, or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering, and compiling of data, the analysis of data, and/or the performance of mathematical or legal tasks
ESCII: Any of the above criteria plus one (1) year of experience as Income Maintenance Case Worker.
ESCIII: Any of the above criteria plus two (2) years of experience as Income Maintenance Case Worker.
An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.
Selected candidates will be expected to successfully complete the NC Fast Core Certification and Level 1 Core Trainings within 90 days of hire. Not all Candidates will be interviewed.Pay Scale:
Economic Services Caseworker I: $16.66 - $28.28/hr
Economic Services Caseworker II: $18.34 - $31.18/hr
Economic Services Caseworker III: $19.26 - $32.74/hr
The applicant selected must undergo and pass a drug screening test prior to employment.
Salary : $17 - $28
