The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.
Graduation an accredited four year college or university with a minimum of 30 semester hours of physical/ biological sciences is required. Must be have a valid Drivers License.
Must be eligible to become a Registered Environmental Health Specialist Intern with NC State Board of Environmental Health Specialist Examiners.
Additional Information
The applicant selected must undergo a criminal background check and pass a drug screening test prior to employment

- Accompany REHS authorized in food & lodging. Observe work and interaction with citizens. Observe various inspections and assist as needed. Onsite wastewater disposal system for new buildings and existing buildings with malfunctioning septic systems. Approve installations of these systems.
- Attend and complete NCDHHS-EH Centralized Intern Training general module, food & lodging module, pool, well, childcares and schools module. Read all related rules for food & lodging. Take prerequisite online trainings Complete all requirements as outlined in the Centralized Intern Training and Authorization documents to become authorized in food & lodging, child cares, and public swimming pools.
- Carryout Performance Management (PM) roles and responsibilities, including identifying and communicating performance improvement opportunities and adjusting performance and practice to achieve established PM goals.
- Assist in various preparedness activities as the need arises such as H1N1, bioterrorism event, or other disease outbreak. The amount of time worked on preparedness activities will vary based on the type and duration of the incident. Regular job duties will be assigned to other staff as needed. Some job duties may not be accomplished.
