What are the responsibilities and job description for the Health Education Coordinator position at Gaston County Government?
The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.
Coordinate prevention education about substance use throughout Gaston County including:
Facilitate lessons about tobacco, opioids or other related topics in Gaston County middle and high schools as requested
Provide educational updates to Gaston County Schools health and PE teachers as needed
Respond to community requests for education about substance use
Actively participate in or lead the relevant committee(s) of the Controlled Substance Coalition
Create and/or implement media campaigns
Collaborate with community partners and participate in/ lead/ develop initiatives to prevent and reduce substance use and overdose including:
Provide ongoing TA and support around the Gaston County Tobacco Rule
Work with the regional tobacco control work group to identify and implement potential projects
Support efforts to distribute naloxone and harm reduction supplies throughout the county
Provide support to the Controlled Substance Coalition
Work with the Teen Action Council to develop peer education/prevention strategies
Collaborate with our local Syringe Service Program to support their work and maintain a strong working relationship
As a member of the Public Health Team, assist with various initiatives aimed at improving the health of Gaston County residents. These could include, but are not limited too: health promotion programs, policy work, adolescent health work, public health events, CHIP work, grant initiatives.
Assist in public health communications work by engaging in any combination of the following: actively participating on the Communications Team, creating/editing/providing feedback on Public Health Communications, managing/updating content on the website or social media.
Participate in required supervisory meetings, staff meetings, and other related activities conducted by the Department of Health & Human Services and its Public Health Division.
As needed, assist in preparedness and emergency response activities in situations that threaten the public's health (i.e. disease outbreaks, natural disasters, etc).
Implement strategies aimed at achieving Health Equity, including but not limited to: attending trainings to better understand inequities, identifying and addressing barriers to health, serving on the Health Equity Team or its subcommittees, engaging in internal or external efforts to eliminate health disparities.
Carryout Performance Management (PM) roles and responsibilities, including identifying and communicating performance improvement opportunities and adjusting performance and practice to achieve established PM goals
Other duties as assigned.
Master's Degree and/or CHES preferred.The applicant selected must undergo a criminal background check and pass a drug screening test prior to employment.
