EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.Assess WIC Program applicants/participants for program eligibility and develop a nutritional plan of care by: a) obtaining, assessing, and documenting anthropometric measurements; b) interviewing applicants/participants to obtain medical history, dietary practices, and socio-economic information; c) assessing biochemical status; d) determining medical/nutritional eligibility for WIC Program services; e) providing nutrition counseling, negotiating strategies for improvement of nutritional status, and referring to other appropriate services; f) assigning appropriate food package; g) documenting care provided in Crossroads computer system; h) reviewing and authorizing prescriptions for exempt formulas and nutritionals; and i) determining follow-up nutrition counseling needed at subsequent visit.Provide nutrition counseling and education for WIC participants at subsequent visits for WIC Program services by presenting mini-lessons to WIC participants at low nutritional risk and providing follow-ups to high risk participants based on participant needs.Provide breastfeeding education, promotion, and support by: a) educating prenatal participants on the benefits of breastfeeding; b) counseling women on basic lactation management; c) referring women to the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program and/or Lactation Consultant; and d) issuing breastfeeding aids when deemed appropriate.Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by: a) traveling to other WIC Program sites to provide program services; b) recording daily the number and type of services provided to WIC applicants/participants; c) completing a detailed daily time study to document time spent in each WIC program budget area; d) as needed, assisting in preparedness and emergency response activities in situations that threaten the public's health (i.e. disease outbreaks, natural disasters, etc); and e) carrying out Performance Management (PM) roles and responsibilities and adjusting performance and practice to achieve established PM goals.Participate in staff development activities in order to remain up-to-date on new guidelines, policies, procedures, and activities by: a) attending workshops/trainings related to the provision of program services; b) attending departmental, CHE division, and WIC staff meetings; and c) completing required annual WIC, departmental, and county trainings.Implement strategies aimed at achieving Health Equity, including but not limited to: attending trainings to better understand inequities, identifying and addressing barriers to health, serving on the Health Equity Team or its subcommittees, engaging in internal or external efforts to eliminate health disparities.
